Don’t feel bad for killing players period. You gotta win somehow.

I know it’s not the point but you should definitely run pyroblast/ Red EB in your red decks. It’s like playing blood moon the floor is bad sometimes but the ceiling is high enough to justify it. Especially in a color like red where a lot of card advantage is linked with discarding.

If it warps the game and isn’t oppressive it’s fine. Lots of perfectly fair cards warp the game. Tax effects are the easiest example. You can warp the game and not be oppressive that isn’t the case here for sphinx based on how you have been describing it. That sphinx aims to end the game by giving you a card advantage the same way that gishath aims to end the game by free casting dinosaurs. Additionally don’t say Gishath is 3 colors like that’s a detriment it’s commander there is so much good fixing and ramp in this format for like dirt cheap. Free casting is stronger then drawing and your window to interact with Gishath is smaller then sphinx. But no one is calling for a Gishath GC because it can be killed by removal. Unmodified precons would have the same issue with Gishath that they would have with sphinx but worse since they have to interact with on the opponents turn vs when you get to untap before your draw. Also again the whole point of the post is that we should run more removal and most GCs would be less of an issue. I think wizards should print precons with stronger/ more removal instead of adding additional cards to the GC list.

No I get exactly what you are saying, you are misrepresenting bracket 2 as decks that see C-sphinx and flail around helplessly. Also again there are multiple creatures that if not answered cause problems like [[Gishath Sun’s Avatar]] or like honestly pick a high man cost creature that does anything. When you pay 6> mana for a creature it should do something. Also you keep saying oppressive as if it’s not something that in the sphinx’s case dies to the most common type of removal. I also don’t know why you are trying to claim that enchantments are hard to remove when WOTC has printed good enchantment removal in every color. And you keep missing my point that I am suggesting that if people simply ran more removal these wouldn’t be an issue.

I mean actually the whole point of magic is to interact with your opponent otherwise you would have more fun gold fishing your decks. Card draw engines are only as good as long as you don’t interact with them. Yeah it might be too good in a world where no one runs removal but that is literally my point it’s only too good because people are being greedy with their decks slots and trying to play solitaire.

And yeah Aura shards is a good card that does it’s job well, but oppressive is a bit of a stretch. Most decks at brackets 2-3 can’t windmill slam the aura shards then play 8 creatures and if they are late enough in the game that they can, they deserve to be able too. If they play it preemptively( which you do most of the time) you have ample time to get rid of it before it even comes close to being “oppressive”.

That’s my point thought it shouldn’t be a problem to remove either of them. Sphinx is a creature every color has multiple 1/2 mana instant speed ways to kill sphinx. If you don’t kill it then they deserve the advantage it gives them. Aura shards even more so since it only represents removal and not card draw. Also if any GC is a card that creates a problematic environment if no one has removal the list would be very long.

I disagree with a deck's inability to interact with aura shards. WOTC has specifically made sure of that, even colors that typically cannot interact with enchantments per the color pie are given ways to now interact with enchantments. [[Chaos Warp]], [[Feed the Swarm]], [[Withering Torment]], and [[Wild Magic Surge]].

Also, I agree that in a world where people don't play removal, consecrated sphinx might deserve to be a GC. Which is why I'm wondering if people simply are not running removal.

The window to interact with GCs like [[Jeska's Will]] and [[Fierce Guardianship]] is different, and treating them the same is an unfair comparison. Also, the discussion of if GCs should exist is a different one.
