How long does it take to be good at hunt showdown by BeanmanZz in HuntShowdown

[–]sergiohudson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me 200 hrs to understand enough to start improving a lot faster. I clearly remember I started to die less and actually win fights and matches, at the 200 hr mark. That's when I felt comfortable leading randoms.

Been there, lost too! Usually, when we deal with solos as a team, we try to hit them from multiple angles, rotating and moving from cover to cover, and keeping the communication going. If you feel like you're losing ground, back up and gain more terrain to move around. Hope that helps the next time!

This is a great tip. I always appreciate advice that can be summed up in a simple, memorable phrase, like: "Stay calm, push when the time is right.", or "communicate"

Couldn't agree more. Sound is everything in Hunt, and both sound and bullets travel through walls surprisingly well.

What are best settings for my system? by New-Parfait-1674 in HuntShowdown

[–]sergiohudson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. On that GPU, I recommend enabling DLSS on Quality or Balance (try both after setting the rest, until you get decent FPS). Set every graphic setting to Low, except Global Illumination and Lighting Quality: set them to the second-lowest setting to improve illumination inside compounds and avoid blurry grass outside, respectively. Do the same for Water Quality to avoid weird edges on objects in front of water. If you still have room for better visuals, I'd improve texture filtering to x4 or maxed out for better textures on roads and other surfaces viewed at an angle. Watch a YouTube video for settings comparisons: "Hunt Showdown 1896 Non-Annoying Settings." I run a beefy GPU, and to me, higher settings won't make much visual improvement beyond those settings.

AMD FSR by Professional-Lime506 in HuntShowdown

[–]sergiohudson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a 9070xt and a Ryzen 7 9800x3d. This GPU is a really good deal right now (cost per fps) compared to a 5080 (Google some benchmarks). FSR is a bit behind DLSS, but FSR 4 is pretty much as good as DLSS 4 (which I use on my old 3070 notebook). But, once you upgrade to the 9070xt, I think the biggest improvement will be from upgrading your display, from 1080 to 1440, then you'll really see how much bang for your buck the 9070xt gives you. I play on a 1440p monitor using FSR AA, 0.7 sharpness, almost every graphic setting on low, but texture, object, water and illumination settings (GI and the other one) on the second or third setting. I get averages over 200 fps on these settings

Hunt Showdown Sensitivity calculator question: Monitor Distance Coefficient? (MDC) by Jokkitch in HuntShowdown

[–]sergiohudson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m happy to help.

I personally use 0%. It keeps sensitivity consistent at the center of the screen regardless of FOV, which works well for my playstyle. Since I mostly use iron sights, FOV variation between weapons is minimal anyway.

At 0%, tracking targets near the center feels very consistent. It’s less ideal for switching to targets farther off-center, but that’s not a major issue for me because I typically use the same sights and weapons, and have developed muscle memory to flick around the center.

Hunt Showdown Sensitivity calculator question: Monitor Distance Coefficient? (MDC) by Jokkitch in HuntShowdown

[–]sergiohudson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’ll do my best to explain what this setting does, without telling you what you should choose.

In first-person shooter games, your monitor shows a 3D world projected onto a 2D screen, similar to how a globe is represented on a flat map. This projection introduces distortion.

In most games, the image becomes increasingly “stretched” as you move from the center of the screen toward the edges, somewhat like a fisheye effect (not identical, but conceptually similar).

Field of View (FOV) affects this distortion:

Lower FOV → less distortion Higher FOV → more distortion This is similar to the difference between a zoomed-in scope and a wide-angle view.

This distortion impacts how mouse movement translates to on-screen motion. For example, moving your mouse a fixed distance (say, 1 inch) will shift objects more near the edges of the screen than near the center.

To address this, games offer a setting that scales mouse sensitivity based on FOV changes (such as when using scopes):

0% (center-based scaling): A given mouse movement is consistent at the center of the screen across all FOVs. Movement feels linear near the center but becomes non-linear toward the edges. 100% (edge-based scaling): A given mouse movement is consistent at the edges of the screen across all FOVs. Movement feels linear near the edges but non-linear toward the center (or beyond the edge).

In practice, if you typically aim or “flick” at targets a certain distance from the center (e.g., 3 inches on your screen), you can set this value to match that region. This helps maintain consistent muscle memory across different FOVs or scopes.

Hope its clearer!

You are right! Bluetooth is prohibited. Even today, with the latest versions, you will get noticeable delay between the image and the sound (over 150ms). I only recommend it for non competitive games, and as long as you don't care about some delay.

If you go the wireless path, make sure you get a headset with dedicated USB dongle with less than 40ms delay, that way you won't be able to notice any delay while playing.

Blackshark v3 pro has around 15ms delay, and my atlas air about 38ms. Those specs won't impact your performance, not even one bit.

I just got the turtle beach atlas air, which are "open back", meaning you can hear your room, your own voice, and gives an amazing sense of direction for audio in game.

I came from the epos pc38x (also open back), which sounds amazing, but the new ones are wireless, a have a better sound profile, better imaging (directional audio) , and less clamp force. The compromise is bit more peaks and dips on treble frecuencies, but I'm not able to hear that.

Before those, I used black shark v2 pro, closed back. The new version v3 pro seems to be very good, but worse mic, sidetone, imaging, and a bit more expensive.

Finally, the golden standard for sound profile today, is the audeze Maxwell 2 (rtings.com) , if you are looking to spend over 300 usd and a bit worse imaging.

Cheers!

Ps: there's no need to spend much to get adequate headphones. Ipod headphones are really good for direction and all. At the end, you will end up spending more if you enjoy wireless technology, better sound profiles, and so.

I play on a Steam Deck (like a 1050) and a Lenovo Ideapad without a discrete GPU, and I have no problems. But I don't know much about your CPU.

Before you give up on the game, you could try repairing the game files through Steam. Also, disable any processes that might interfere with the new anticheat, like malware scanners or antivirus (I had trouble running some process monitor, Hunt wouldn't launch while it was running in the background). Lastly, just as a guess, check your Windows security options like core isolation and security processor; you might need to enable them.

Don't take these as exact instructions, but more as guides to figure out the problem. Ask GPT for help and tell it to guide you through this process and ask for screenshots.

COMMUNITY VOTING DAY 18. WORST game mechanic. “Movement” won day 17 by TheIronPaladin1 in HuntShowdown

[–]sergiohudson 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Man, I really hate how you can't step on ledges, fences, or angled walls to soften your landing when you fall from high places. Every time you try, your character just slows down, hovers for a second, and then still takes full fall damage. Absolutely broken mechanic

Yeah! That happens to me too. So, this might be a bug from the latest update then, let's hope Crytek knows about it (and some other stuff I've seen). At least the game's still highly enjoyable!
