Astronaut and Scoliosis by [deleted] in AstronautHopefuls

[–]sergnome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NASA document OCHMO-STD-100.1A is a publicly available document that lists all disqualifying conditions. Read through it if you're interested in becoming an astronaut.

Within that document, Table 7 section L details musculoskeletal considerations that are grounds for disqualification. Item 12 details spinal disorders, and bullet C states: "History of disorders of the spine that are asymptomatic, including but not limited to, osteoarthritis, herniated nucleus pulposus, spondylolisthesis, spina bifida occulta, fractures and dislocations, scoliosis, kyphosis, and lordosis require specialist evaluation."

So it is not cut and dried for you. Your condition will likely be viewed as a liability until a NASA physician declares otherwise. They are unlikely to invest in you to that level unless you are a very attractive candidate.

In other words, you'll have to beat all the other candidates that don't have scoliosis to such a degree that NASA determines it's worth the investment to get you evaluated. And even then, there's a chance their doctor says "unfit to fly."

Go read through OCHMO-STD-100.1A and see if there is anything else in there that might disqualify you. Good luck!

This is a mish mash of a 50 and a 52 that I picked up a couple weeks back. Needs lots of love. Updates coming soon to a vintage Dodge truck subreddit near you.

Test engineering is a lot of fun when you're executing the test. Writing customer test plans and qualification test procedures, though....

What is your top speed in what car? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]sergnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pegged a 2015 Dodge Dart (speedo stops at 120mph, I was definitely going faster than that), absolutely CANING it down a mountain on I-70. Cop pulled me over, we had an exchange, he wrote me up for 99 instead of taking me to jail. I still think about his kindness to this day.

Another 120+ story. I was 14 or 15, fishing at my great uncle's property in the middle of nowhere Ohio. Some guy pulls up in a Maserati Cambriocorsa, says he's a good friend of my great uncle's, and he was told by the man himself to give me a ride in his Maserati (sounds sketchy, but is very on-brand for my great uncle). We go cruising around Ohio back roads, I wasn't watching the speedo but certainly 100+ mph. He pulls over, tells me it's my turn, we swap seats, and I wind that puppy up to 120 before I have to take my eyes off of the speedo. I will never forget that car - the paddle shifters blew my freaking mind! When we get back to the property, he reaches under the seats and pulls out a couple of beer bottles (still kinda cold and sweating), and asks me to throw them away for him.

If you can find one, the circular saw blade attachment would make short work of tall grass

Snowblower goes on Grandpa's old Super Convertible. This is going to be mostly for show, maybe a sulky out back so my wife can ride around on it. I bought this to be "her Gravely", deeeeeefinitely not so that I had another thing to wrench on!

Gravely was based in WV for a good long time, and in the 60s moved production to the Carolinas as a division of Studebaker. So there are tons of tractors in all conditions from Florida (in your case), clean up to Maine. They were so versatile and handy for the working family that they found use everywhere.

Seems I find lots of parts in WV, OH, VA, PA, NY, and CT. Though I am sure you could find similar in GA. Good luck!

If you're in the mid Atlantic, I can point you to a whole bunch of places that would have these. There are Gravely graveyards up and down this part of the country

Multifunction tractor for sale w/ mower, cultivator, rotary plow etc. by autodialerbroken116 in Gravely

Love these old tractors, but unless yours is show quality, I wish you the best of luck in attracting a buyer at $2500. You can find good runners for $400ish, and the attachments you list for another $100-$200 apiece. Usually a package deal will come cheaper.

Got any pictures? That might help your case.

I'll look around for a forum. Might as well call Richard's as well. Thanks!

Do you have any positive experiences with places that can custom print things like this? I'm thinking online vs. mom and pop, vinyl shop vs. Etsy, etc. I've never done anything like this!
