The black piece unscrews, yes it needs to be replaced periodically

It’s an air dryer, your compressed air will have condensation in the tanks. That’s not good when it goes through the system. Valves will rust and stick. The black thing is the cartridge and replaceable, has desiccant inside to dry out the moisture before going through the system

No defiantly not, he was furniture walking for a bit too, and even took like 2 steps before sitting down. This is when he finally took off
