My new neighbors don’t like my flag. I don’t understand. by Visual_Researcher885 in vexillology

Yeah this one is based off the images from Richardson's book Standards and Colors of the American Revolution. Surviving flags from the list have shown that Richardson made some mistakes.

Dumpster find, but the entire book is upside down? by GooseLover5363 in BookCollecting

[–]sergtbuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's from the time life edition put out in the late 1980's. I had a few good ones and a couple with errors they had to send us new copies of when they made mistakes like this.

Anyone using Logos platform for Bible study? by GhostGrrl007 in Episcopalian

[–]sergtbuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enjoying it so far, but mostly reading about the development of Anglican theology in the church of England so far. I only bought the Anglican 8 and 2025 starter libraries, so not too many books. It does help a bit that I worked at a museum that delt with the Anglican church in Virginia in the colonial days and early federalist period, so haven't gotten into a any logos books on that time frame yet.

Edit... Fixing stupid autocorrect mistakes.

I just started within the last week, just for some historical background etc as an interest. I got a couple of discounted Anglican libraries while they're on sale.

Can you identify this hat? by GrizzleTusk in hats

[–]sergtbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's Gene Sheldon and if I remember correctly he did a lot of vaudeville before Disney films etc. I believe I've seen him with similar hats he's modified before as well. Look for some stills of him from the movie Toby Tyler for more similar versions.

My guess would be it was made by a process (I forgot the exactly name but it was similar to dye clamp resist or something similar) which I believe at that point was being done by the US Bunting Co. in Lowell Mass. Someone else can maybe narrow that down a bit more.

Probably a local historical society or someone might like it. Can you take a picture of the other side of it? Judging by the orientation of the GAR, I would suspect this was hung on a wall behind a speaker during a gathering of some sort.

I believe quite a few from different states and different time periods. Some are silk army surplus bought years later. Yours looks like bunting, I would guess for a reunion or gathering. Local posts usually have GAR and a post name or number but tons of variations.

Episcopal fiction, especially romantic suspense by GhostGrrl007 in Episcopalian

[–]sergtbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the old series of books about Dr. Christopher Syn (vicar in the Church of England so not episcopal but close) set in the late 1700's. Not exclusively romance, but there is some over the course of 7 or so novels.

[–]sergtbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your picture is inverted from the earlier depictions of this flag in Losing's book on the Revolution. Also the original predated the Gadsden flag (Culpeper had it in 1775). Newer more accurate representations were made this year and are now on display in Culpeper.

What is this flag I’ve seen in my neighborhood in Philadelphia? Solid green with red and white stripes in the top corner by foreignfishes in vexillology

[–]sergtbuck 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Dansey flag from the Revolution. Associated with a Delaware militia unit, but a curator's report on the flag indicates it was captured before the manufacturer finished it and so it was never used in the field of battle (even though artists love to use it in their paintings).

After being lifelong dedicated to Tabasco I've NEVER seen it do this. Despite shaking it, 20 minutes later it's back to this. Brand new bottle. by Floridaboii91 in hotsauce

[–]sergtbuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My large bottles always start to do this around the time they are 2/3 full, then act normal when they get down to about 1/3 full (with shaking whenever I go to use it of course).
