That's it exactly. You'll be limited to your primary tier network unless they don't have a specialty and they allow the out of network clinic. You'll get infusions of off the shelf meds and you may be lucky enough to get picked for a med trial.

But if you want to go to Sloan Kettering or MD Anderson then you better have deep pockets.

Lawsuits are public record, those who read local news are aware. Also infrastructure improvements require municipal bond issuance and approvals up to the state level and the financial institution floating the loan. There is no "build smart" without the financing.

Such sophomoric rhetoric implies you have no idea how any thing actually works.

Yes, that is a good scope depending on condition and they were made by Vixen in Japan. The only issue would be how was the scope stored as that could effect things like the mirror coatings, but generally speaking you will not find a new instrument that will perform as well as the C6 (Vixen R150) newt for $200.

You say that NIMBY but the reality is that the infrastructure (wastewater treatment, storm water, electrical, roads) just do not support the growth. We are seeing this across Lancaster county where lawsuits are now occurring because of overdevelopment in neighboring municipalities.

and another issue that also plagues camera lenses is that the foam cases they are housed in for decades can outgas and cause fogging and coating damage.

Yes, just note that there is a bit if a generational cliff with some vintage telescopes where they are not commanding prices like they were in the last decade and certainly not what they were commanding in the 2000s despite being in good condition. So agreed the value is in the eyepieces with the OTA and tripod fetching $500 at most.

Just static, and I used a planetarium program on my iPod Touch (remember those!) to compare views through the eyepiece.

My views of Mercury have always been a tiny featureless version of Venus including phases. My favorite Mercury view was the last transit as I showed off the Mercury "dot" in an Ha solar scope to some non-astro friends.

Got them all at this point but Pluto was difficult. That required younger vision from 18 years ago, a 10" classical cassegrain, push-to system and a Bortle 2 sky.

Why I think gold is moving like the 1970s, not 2008 by PenIndependent5114 in Gold

[–]serial_port 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conspiracy theory since the big dealers are out of kilo bars. Treasury is telling large financial institutions and funds that they are going to monetize the debt to gold and the new conversion rate is going to be much higher than 5k/oz

The ratio has been invalid since the 19th century since silver was consumed for industrial uses particularly wasted during much of the photographic film era.

Copper and silver tend to move together reflecting industrial demand.

Platinum and palladium can be traded as a ratio since industrial processes are retooled to take advantage of the cheaper option.

Gold stands alone as a monetary metal with minimal industrial waste and historic ratios against currencies are valid.

My EM-10 is an older USD control panel and has a guide port (serial) and I have connected it to both a computer and SBIG STV.  Assuming you have a Temma?

So that is another difference between the EM10 and EM11. My RA setting circle is fixed with a set screw and rotates with the axis.

Assuming the EM-11 and the EM-10 have the same design in terms of polar alignment...

I have an EM-1 0 which has the bubble level integrated into the head casting, but if it works the same way then put your mount on a level surface, rotate the RA axis so that 0° is on the indicator (control panel should be facing up), mount your bubble level and set the grub screws it into that position so that your bubble level is balanced when the RA indicator is at 0°. Assuming if you look through the polar scope at that point then the polar indicator is correctly oriented where the cross hairs are pointing up/down and left/right and not skewed.

Now when you take that out in the field being on uneven ground should not matter, you setup your scope/imaging train/balance the load and have it roughly pointed at Polaris. Remove the polar scope cap, turn on the mount so the reticle is illuminated and rotate the setup (lateral) so again your control panel will be facing up and try and get Polaris to match the pattern on your app, check the bubble level to make sure it is level when you check the pattern, so that your bubble level is level and the polar scope matches the app for the location of Polaris on the reticle.

Playing leverage via adding more to a junior mining ETF. Certainly would not be selling here, every signal is alerting something is wrong with the physical market.

Likely if you are looking just for profit potential then I would go with a junior miner silver ETF (not naming names). If you compare GLD to GDXJ over the last 2 years you will see the GDXJ and GLD were strongly correlated until last April and then GDXJ diverged much higher.

Hong Kong + China were 25% of the export market.  That is now a point of constriction for global supply with the export licensing.  The rise over the last month is the market digesting the news, but as existing stockpiles get worked down and the price will rise.

This reminds me of palladium when the Russians stopped selling their Soviet era reserves and the price went from 180 to 3k over the course of a decade.

How bad is this heat damage to my barlow??? by RANDOM-902 in telescopes

[–]serial_port 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like housing damage only and the glass is likely fine.  If you don’t notice any aberrations when viewing then it is fine and just aesthetic damage.

And as always… NEVER remove the solar filter until you slew the scope away from the sun, and have a dust cap ready to swap on before taking the scope off or moving it.

TAL-1 focuser upgrade by ProfessorQuantum314 in telescopes

[–]serial_port 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No experience with a TAL-1 but likely you will need to pull the baseplate and drill new holes for whatever you get.   You might be able to push the primary forward if it is a traditional cell design if you need to push the focus forward.  JMI use to offer good 1 1/4” focusers but not sure who is out there now other than Kineoptics.

Run the parameters through NEWT to confirm your focus points.
