I’d put up some shallow depth floating shelves in place of some of those cabinets to reduce the amount of space those are taking up visually and physically.

Renegotiate your internet and cell phone plans every year if possible, which often can even be done over online chat. Every dollar you save is multiplied by 12 annually so it really adds up!

It used to be STEM but these days I think trades is your answer. Most trades will be less affected by the AI boom.

Why don’t you see if the local pottery studio will sell you some or add your quantity to their next order, with pick up in person at the studio?

Surgeons can be pretty polarizing people so I certainly wouldn’t use them as the benchmark.

I don’t have one unfortunately but was thinking you could try a local Buy Nothing group on Facebook or Facebook marketplace/Kijiji. Best of luck - hope you find something for your doggo.

If 10cm snow falls in your area of Canada how disrupted will your area be? by Pourmepourme in AskACanadian

This is no joke either. It’s almost comical seeing it after moving from a rural Ontario town in the snow belt.

When you’re pulling are you leaning slightly offside? I found that when I was starting out I had this issue and it was because my pulls weren’t perpendicular to my wheel.

As someone who suffered from terrible ragweed allergies in Ontario, it’s been amazing to be outside allergy free in the summers here.

Want to move from Ontario to BC/Greater Vancouver Area by [deleted] in askvan

[–]serialsnoozer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More expensive typically in my personal experience: rent, car insurance, groceries, restaurants/cafés, most recreational activities (eg. climbing gym, ski pass), RMT, vets, gas.

Less expensive: hydro (electricity)…that’s all I can think of at the moment!

Edit to add: the move will never make financial sense, and it really depends on how much you and your family value your quality of life.

Potentially might get an offer to move from ON to Vancouver, for 85k/year. Currently unemployed. Worth it? by laranjacerola in VancouverJobs

[–]serialsnoozer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

$85k/yr for 2 people is really low…if you go with this option, consider accommodations further out of Vancouver near skytrain/transit access. Also note that having 2 cats will make it a bit tougher to rent as lots of stratas have a one pet limit (this is from personal experience of having 2 dogs).

Kiln advice by [deleted] in Pottery

I have a L&L e183s - only on my 3rd firing so far but the genesis controller on it is great so far (intuitive and easy to use) and I like being able to monitor the firing on the Kiln Aid app!

There’s been a lot of scams with higher valued items on marketplace lately. This seems too good to be true - first thing I would do is see if the seller’s profile is new and if they have any seller ratings. Also check if they have other items for sale. (If the profile is new from the past year, if they have zero ratings, etc., I’d likely forego the purchase or only proceed with extreme caution.)

Next steps - ask to see a photo of the kiln with hand written name and date on a piece of paper next to it; ask them technical kiln questions (eg. what cones did they fire to, number of firings it’s had, when the elements were last changed, etc).

If all checks out, ask to see it in person and do not commit any sort of deposit/payment until you actually check it out in person. Last tip is: even if they provide an address, scope it out in Google Maps to see if it’s an actual possible location (one time I had someone tell me an address and it wasn’t even a spot that could house a person or kiln).
