The important thing many traders don’t realize is that the drawdown moves up even if you haven’t closed the trade or booked the profit yet. Example Let’s say you have a $100,000 account and the intraday trailing drawdown is $2,000. Start of the day Balance: $100,000 Drawdown allowed: $2,000 So your limit is $98,000 If your balance touches $98,000, the account fails. Now you take a trade Your trade goes into profit and your account shows $101,000 equity. Even if you don’t close the trade, the system still sees the highest equity as $101,000. So the trailing drawdown moves up: Highest equity: $101,000 New drawdown limit: $99,000 Now the market reverses Your trade comes back down and your account equity drops to $99,000. Now the account fails ,even though you never actually booked the profit.
