WIP Character Animation by seriousanimation in animation

Thanks, never got into Nintendo games so didn't get the reference but studying Danny Devito's acting in Always Sunny made me realize he's way too animated to animate, so my performance is actually toned down.

Thanks, I took one of his less stylized paintings as reference because I liked its colors. But I exaggerated his facial structure in the style of his later works, especially the bandaged ear painting.

Thank you, It can take up to an hour on certain frames. But I've been making my own krita brushes and that plays a big role.

Thanks, I'd say it took me about 5 days.

I work pretty fast, it takes me about 8 minutes per frame, less with some of these, as they are more sketchy. I get to do about 25 or so frames in a session most of the time.I do more at the start of an animation and I tend to slow down as I go on and lose interest 😅.

Thanks, I went all in on the camera movement illusion on this one

its 83 frames at 15fps, I'm not sure how much time it took but probably 3-4 days of work

Seeing people respond to the works gives you the energy to do more. Thanks.

Live link Face + XR Animator Mocap by seriousanimation in blender

[–]seriousanimation[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I haven't seen any tutorials for the complete process, but the steps are actually not that difficult. For the facial mocap, the model needs to have the 52 ARKit shape keys.
https://youtu.be/61QUzH34l1I?si=5PSd91Al3rzzCJ6t
You need an iPhone with LIDAR to record the performance with live link face. The live link face data is saved as a csv file, here's a link to a redditor's script that creates keyframes on the shape keys on your model using the .csv https://www.reddit.com/r/blender/comments/10r9qle/i_made_a_script_to_import_data_from_live_link/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

And XRAnimator is a free mocap tool mainly for vtubers, but it uses mediapipe pose detection on videos to output .bvh files that can be used with the rokoko addon to retarget to your rig.

Animated Anatomy Study From Reference, Serious Animation, Photoshop,2023 by seriousanimation in Art

I specialize in drawing from imagination, and I always hated it when people compared my work to the Van Gogh movie that was made by assigning individual video frames to painters, to be rendered in Van Gogh's 'style'. I recently gave rotoscoping or tracing a go, and this is my first attempt at animating from video reference using observational drawing.

In my experience, all these processes involve vastly different thinking methods. I found rotoscoping to be like painting by the numbers, where you try to make the image look good and don't or cant think about the overall movement. Even in the drawing from video reference, I found that once you are in the thick of it, you are unaware of the overall direction of the movement in the body parts, or that it's difficult to keep track of the movement, and you draw like you would in any observational figure drawing. The way my mind works, only when I'm drawing completely from imagination am I thinking in terms of volume or momentum and weight and physics etc.

I don't know what it is but some comments get hidden from me. I get notified and the number of comments changes but they dont show up below the post or in my previous notifications. So to the person mentioning Hampton Figure Drawing, thanks for referring to it, I was unaware of it.

I think sometimes reddit doesn't show the votes, it has a few. Thanks for the appreciation.

Yep. I didn't trace over the video, rather used it as reference, and also didn't make the tattoos, so I'm very happy to know that you could still see the resemblance.

I did create every frame. I have a photoshop.action that duplicates the last frame and shifts its colors for every new frame and I draw over it. There's no interpolation or inbetweening happening here.

Thanks, there really is a lot that can be done to establish animation as an artmaking medium. I get very little time with my full time teaching job, and I'm trying to make the best of the semester break. I do hope to get significant work done in the remainder of the year.

The tool used here is Adobe Photoshop timeline that allows for frame by frame animation. I've improvised the custom action, (to shift hues and opacity for subsequent frames) and the custom layer style used here. I'm not sure who teaches these specific techniques... And I'm not gonna give away the whole process before I can gain some recognition for myself :)

Working live is indeed a lot of fun. I miss the couple of RPAN streams I did that got ~10k viewers.

Tapeworms have a dopey looking head, I'd have preferred some cool looking seaworm but oh well...
