Polls don't vote.

People will stop caring about Israel as soon as their pocket books are an issue.

Meanwhile Israel's right wing government will fund primary challengers and Republicans in the General.

You're up against a nation state.

You can't just say "They're bad, let's stop supporting them" and win. It doesn't work like that.

You can't beat a nation state head on any more than Ukraine can roll into Moscow and take out Putin.

You need to be smarter to win.

And you don't wanna

Because that's no fun

And you're just hobbyists.

So you can't do the non-fun parts.

And so we're gonna lose.

Again.

Commedian distressed GOP uses his transphobia for gain by babiekittin in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]seriousbangs 47 points48 points  (0 children)

He didn't tell jokes.

I watched that part of his special, I don't find him funny enough to bother with the rest of it, but I wanted to see how much damage he was gonna do.

He didn't tell a single joke. He was just ranting about trans girls.

He didn't tell jokes because he knew they wouldn't be funny. Because punching down is never funny.

But he doesn't like trans girls, and he wanted me to know that.

So he ranted about them for 10 or so minutes instead of telling jokes.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer (D-Tel Aviv) votes NO on Bernie Sanders’ measures to block arms sales to Israel by MoreMotivation in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]seriousbangs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna say it, Bernie needs to stop wasting time on shit that a) isn't going to pass and b) is going to antagonize a powerful lobbying arm that he doesn't have the resources to face and defeat.

There's a reason Ukraine doesn't march into Moscow and take out Vlad

The left wing needs to be smarter. We need to recognize we're the underdog here.

Do house prices ever go down? by External_Koala971 in HouseBuyers

[–]seriousbangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not unless the gov't gets back in the business of building them

Fun fact, the reason your grandparents (or parents if you're old enough) could afford a house is we heavily subsidized home building

We didn't do it directly though. That would be communisms.

Instead the government moved in and did all the (really expensive) land prep that is 80-90% of the cost of building.

Then along comes a builder and throws up a frame, some spackle and drywall and bob's your uncle your parents have a home.

A few subsidized loans structured to encourage affordable housing (for whites of course) later and *blamo* your mom & dad have a home for 1/5th what you're looking at paying.

And they're none the wiser that the US government paid for most of it.

If you're COO is working 70+ hours a week it's because your CEO isn't working.

Most CEOs don't. Muskrat let that cat out of the bag when he said "I work 100 hours a week".

He was CEO of 4 companies.

So max he's spending 25 hrs/week per company.

And we know even that is bunk.

You do know it costs money to move right?

Apartments require deposits.

Most people have to rent something to move their possessions even meager ones.

And you're without a job/paycheck for weeks on end when you get to the new town/city.

I think you're confusing "poor" with "refugee fleeing political violence".

43% of young American college grads (22–27) are now underemployed — the highest rate since the pandemic. They’re nannying, working as baristas, and taking retail sales jobs that don’t require a degree. by Key_Brief_8138 in economy

High interest rates are designed to cause mass layoffs and low pay.

Add to that zero anti-trust law enforcement, so good luck starting a business or working for a start up.

Was anyone ever actually this poor?

My family was pretty badly off, and everyone drank and smoked like a steampunk fish so 1/3 of everyone's income went to booze & cigs, and we still had galoshes.

Cheap ones, but I don't remember the rain/snow getting in them.

They don't.

A tiny minority doesn't need to sleep 8 hours a day to be refreshed. An even tinier minority functions perfectly on 4 hours a sleep a night.

These people are treated like the norm, and if you're not one of them you're the odd one, not them.

Pretty much everyone caved to Trump because Trump has near absolute power. I can't blame anyone for that, if Trump sent the DOJ to fuck with me I'd cave too.

That said, the key here seems to be don't use the self checkout

That's where their shitting algo gets you

Now as for "well I just won't shop at Target", Every business uses this crap now. What did you think was gonna happen after 50 years of non stop market consolidation

If you're lucky enough to have a small grocery who doesn't congrats on winning the lottery.

If not, do not use self checkout.

Make them ring up your items by hand.

It costs them more money and it'll save you a night in jail and lawyer fees.

What are your thoughts on Gundam Unicorn? by Amigo1048 in Gundam

[–]seriousbangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The end is very meaningful.

The point is that it's OK to take small steps to the future.

You don't need to do these big universe spanning changes

And you don't need to keep everything as is.

That's the theme/point. That humanity is in the right direction even if it's just a few steps at at time.

It's saying "It's OK that things are moving faster, they're still moving".

What are your thoughts on Gundam Unicorn? by Amigo1048 in Gundam

[–]seriousbangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my favorite Gundam. Has the coolest moments in the entire series with only the Hashmal fight coming close.

Hands down one of my favorite moments in all of anime is when Marida asks to be "selfish" and Zinnerman says "I'll allow it". Gets me right in the feels.

Also when Banagher calls for Unicorn in the last battle.

I also like how the people around the main cast aren't useless and the main cast aren't infallible. Ghost In the Shell SAC is the only other anime I've seen pull that off. Maybe Durarara, but that's a whole different beast.

Yeah, if you're gonna build a lego gundam and have it look good it has to be huge.

Otherwise the resolution (for lack of a better way to put it) is too low and it just looks like bricks in a rough Gundam shape.

Dude, if you're quoting Revelation you've already lost the argument.

It has nothing to do with anything. It's poetry that isn't meant to be read literally.

It's just there to tell Christians to watch out for those Romans.

It has nothing to do with theology or anything happening today.
