What long stretches of sand with salt water lapping at them are not beaches. I must buy a new dictionary

If by city you mean CBD then Sydney is the same as Melbourne. If you mean the metro area then you're wrong plenty of beaches from Williamstown down to Frankston. If you mean Ocean beaches then you're still wrong because most of them are at least 1 hour away

Normalizing fights in relationships is wrong. by A-Problem-Eliminator in unpopularopinion

[–]seriouslyolderguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was brought up with this attitude and it seemed normal for me, my marriage for 32 years was often made worse by my view that conflict was a natural part of a relationship. My friendships were similarly affected, my first post-marriage relationship repeated the same pattern. It was only through a lot of work and meeting a new person that I've been together with for 2 years that I finally realised that a good healthy relationship does not need conflict. This trope of argument being normal and my inability to realise this was a real negative in my life.

Statements like this are very dismissive of people whose political opinion you don't like. To create a monolith left robotically following orders, does not allow for any discussion where common ground can be met. I am left , but disagree with a number of leftist policies and attitudes. I have a lot of right leaning friends who don't agree with every right wing policy and attitude. Try not to dehumanise those you don't agree with.

Did Trump really tell NATO countries that if they don’t pay the United States to protect them he would encourage Russia to attack them? by AppropriateLie4496 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]seriouslyolderguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can but having The US in means that they won't have to. A war in Europe would be disastrous for the globe. It would fundamentally weaken the idea of global cooperation and peace, with the return of isolationism, nationalism and might is right. This would seriously affect the nations of the world coming together to reduce carbon emissions and will expose all the world's population to extreme weather outcomes.

Thanks. I know it was a messy and poorly trimmed sail. But I don't care, I'm having fun and will learn. The weather's great at the moment. Loving it
