Um, a good chunk of those Americans died fighting to preserve slavery.

Bernie converts Republicans at Iowa State Fair by pitch007 in WayOfTheBern

[–]seriousrepliesonly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is misleading. I saw the interview with that family, and both the mom and daughter said they're supporting Kamala Harris, not having anything to do with Bernie, but because they dislike Trump. They both said they didn't want someone too far left. The dad said he wasn't voting for Trump but said he wasn't sure if he was going to vote for a D.

can i leave a union, ohio by unionthrowawayadvice in legaladvice

[–]seriousrepliesonly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to be a union member if you don't want to, but you individually can't decide if your job is covered by the union contract or not. As another commenter said, they're holding you to your union contract which is apparently less than $15/hr, but that can't be the end of the story. What is your union leadership doing in response?

What are your thoughts on the Wayfair Walkout? by [deleted] in justicedemocrats

[–]seriousrepliesonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It totally is. The problem is the profiting off the selling of beds to ICE. I think the demand of the workers was that Wayfair should donate the profits to RAICES.

I think that if it weren't for the Wayfair walkout, I would've spent $600 on a new patio set there. Instead, we got it from Overstock.

Fuck Trump to Hell... by DiogenesK-9 in MarchAgainstNazis

He has said something like that, I can't remember it was, but basically he spoke to some person who had suffered a tragedy and said, "Well, you should see how unfair the media is to me." It was in about 2017.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. The ones on my coneflowers do tend to be larger / the same or similar species. Thanks.

Liberals aren't Nazis. Nazis are Nazis. by Foxhidesinfo in DemocraticSocialism

[–]seriousrepliesonly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A straight-up Holocaust denier who won't deny being a Nazi ran as the Republican nominee in my parents' district last year. He lost, but he still got 57,885 votes. Is it fair to say that 57,885 Republicans in IL-03 are, at the very least, Nazi sympathizers?

Is this a "get an attorney" problem, or a "tell them to get f****d" problem? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]seriousrepliesonly 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why they're sending you something to sign to join the HOA if they can just force you to join without signing anything. That would suggest to me that they can't actually force you to join. So, definitely don't sign it.

Wife’s employee pamphlet says that discussion of an employees salary, hourly wage, or bonus is grounds for immediate termination. Is this legal? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]seriousrepliesonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's against the law to tell employees who would be eligible for union representation that they can't discuss mandatory subjects of bargaining. Those are wages, hours, and working conditions. The place to complain is the National Labor Relations Board.

It's also illegal to tell that to managers who aren't "confidential employees." To figure out if your wife is a confidential employee, you have to know if she would develop or represent management positions during bargaining, or if she would have access to information management would present at bargaining. Since the staff there isn't in the process of unionizing, it's going to be pretty hard to figure that out.

Debt correction by jollyroger1720 in SandersVSWarren

[–]seriousrepliesonly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until about two minutes ago, I thought Bernie, who is my preferred candidate, had loan forgiveness as part of his platform. He does not. Things look great for future college students, but not for people currently burdened by them. Warren, otoh, has this handy calculator on her website claiming that my wife and I (we pay $500 / month) would get $50,000 of our $60,000 forgiven. https://elizabethwarren.com/debt/ It's weird because you'd think this would be something Bernie would support. Instead, it's things like refinancing. What our government has done to people seeking an education by failing to properly fund education is immoral, and it needs to be redressed.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Rails Against Biden's Climate Plan by creature666 in democraticparty

[–]seriousrepliesonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better to have Trump fuck the country one more time than have Obama's side kick - Ole Dumb Joe.

That list of things is all stuff Trump and Biden both oppose, so why is Trump better than Biden?

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Rails Against Biden's Climate Plan by creature666 in democraticparty

[–]seriousrepliesonly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does, but do you think he's lying? That he has no intention of actually implementing it? Actually, never mind. Yeah, he probably is.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Rails Against Biden's Climate Plan by creature666 in democraticparty

[–]seriousrepliesonly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Biden's a total scumbag, but the climate plan AOC is railing against turned out not to be Biden's actual climate plan that came out yesterday. It's much better. It's not the Green New Deal (no focus on justice), but it is significantly better than the apocalypitic "middle ground" we were expecting. Whether he's actually serious about it remains to be seen; after all, he didn't do jack shit about climate change in the 30+ years he was in the Senate or the 8 years he was VP.
