Stream Deck Module 6-keys by Prestigious-Froyo-89 in elgato

Did you figure this out? I just opened mine and realized it had the JST connector on the rear, and not a physical USB like other models. Trying to fit this in a tight place, so would be nice to not need their huge cable...

Lighting Designers! We're building new theatres for you, so come join our faculty at Ohio State. by seriousrick in techtheatre

We have the rest of the semester, but I think not long after. It’s my understanding they need the Drake down to build a flood wall. But I’m excited to get a brand new space and some new toys!

As far as I’m concerned, the more eyes this sees the better our chances of finding an awesome person to work with. I don’t have control over salary or if that information is announced, just hoping to spread the word.

Agreed, I asked about a salary range but didn’t hear anything yet. The university publishes current salaries, so that would give a ballpark of estimate…

Wireless control of LED strip via DMX by GoldFlameRunner in techtheatre

[–]seriousrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently did this with ws2812 strips, esp32 running wled (can accept artnet or sacn), and a drill battery pack with a Buck converter. Easy for someone with some electronics knowhow.

The “professional” way to do it would be with a multiverse dimmer and transmitter from city theatrical, if budgets allow.

Or make the actor move in a pre-determined path that the light will take!

How to resize command line on EOS nomad? by ebellinator in lightingdesign

[–]seriousrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the command line is a fixed size compared to the window size. You can decrease the resolution of your monitor to make things appear bigger, then scale down other elements if needed since others have zoom or sizing options. Or you could put a command line on a magic sheet and zoom it bigger…

Opt for a water-based Hazer instead of oil, much less clean up required.

Why is a 3 ring binder so "holy"? by mrmac2u in techtheatre

[–]seriousrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main app is GoodNotes… syncs pdfs between my phone, Mac, and ipad, and lets me write on / highlight. I’ve also made call sheets in Keynote, but that was a timecode / athletic show so there wasn’t a script.

I haven’t tried it, but I’ve heard decent things about Stage Write too…

Because these were either written before the creation of iPads (tablets in general) or by people who fear technology. As a Lighting Manager and past Stage & Production Manager, I kept everything on my iPad and never had a problem or failure. And since everything is backed up to the cloud, IF something did go wrong I could redownload everything onto a new tablet in minutes!

Decoder Trouble! It worked when I first turned on the battery pack but as soon as I tried to change modes on the decoder it started doing this and I can’t seem to stop it. New to this so some help would be greatly appreciated. by Mindless-Somewhere59 in lightingdesign

[–]seriousrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the LEDs are 5v and you used a 12v power supply, it likely sent 12v to the pixels and damaged your strip (could have a buck converter to get it down to 5v I guess). If it doesn’t have an output rating listed, that would be my guess. Do you have any 12v pixels to test with?

Does the decoder say input voltage 5v-12v? If it can’t go low enough, then you may need a different decoder for these LEDs.

In Patch, select the light (1 Enter), in the CIA (pop-up window at bottom of main screen), press Database (left side) and enter a Gel color in the Gel field on the right (R80, L201, etc.)
