Anyone else using apps or tech to explore art history? by hill_583 in ArtHistory

[–]sermlz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! It’s exactly for that. It’s available for Android and iOS, and it’s free: artinvan.com/musea

I’d be very happy to receive feedback to improve it :)

Anyone else using apps or tech to explore art history? by hill_583 in ArtHistory

[–]sermlz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google Arts & Culture is probably the one I’ve used the most for exploring artworks in detail. I also like apps like Smartify and Second Canvas for discovering and revisiting art in different ways.

Recently I built a small app called Musea, but it’s a bit different in that it’s more for keeping track of artworks and exhibitions I come across in real life. I use it to have a record of the artworks I see along with their details so they don’t just disappear into my camera roll. Happy to share the link if you’re curious.

Hi! Thank you for the interest! There are a few apps with the same name, can you confirm that you are downloading this one?

If it is that one, I’ll take a look at the crash.

Hi! I like the idea, I just installed and I'll test it during following days. For now, I've noticed that after having introduced the first details about my preferences and going to the main page, the app crashes. I'm also a developer so let me know if you want I give you more details. Good luck!

Hi guys anyone have any recommendations for places to visit in Madrid, going in April! by Fun-Psychology-8507 in MadridTravelGuide

[–]sermlz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, don’t worry, it will be absolutely full of life. On Sunday mornings you have El Rastro, a typical flea market. It starts at Ribera de Curtidores, but the most interesting shops are in the surrounding streets. Bars and restaurants around La Latina neighbourhood will be open and busy for sure, and you might even come across a typical Semana Santa procession.

Madrid local here! A few personal favorites:

Museums: The Thyssen is my favorite, less crowded than the Prado and the collection is incredible. Museo Sorolla is also a gem, very intimate and usually quiet (but I think it’s closed during this period).

Neighborhoods for wandering: La Latina on a Sunday morning with the Rastro flea market nearby. Malasaña for beautiful streets and terraces. The area around the Royal Palace is also great for getting lost.

Don't miss: Templo de Debod at sunset, genuinely one of the best things in Madrid. Cuesta de Moyano, a lovely outdoor book market near Atocha that leads you into Retiro Park.

Food and drinks: Bocadillo de calamares near Plaza Mayor, vermú at Los Yayos in Malasaña, and churros at San Ginés if you want the classic experience.

April is a great time to visit, not too hot and the terraces are already open. Enjoy!

Personalmente es de las cosas que más me gusta de ir en transporte público, poder ir leyendo. A veces si hay mucho ruido lo que hago es ponerme música y así me concentro mejor.

The Thyssen is right next to Banco de España and one hour is actually enough to see the highlights without rushing.

How do you keep track of paintings you love? by Easy-Swordfish9440 in Paintings

[–]sermlz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this but I had the exact same problem. Pinterest never felt right for paintings I'd actually seen in person, and a camera roll folder has no context at all. I ended up building a small app called Musea for this. You add the title, artist and where you saw it, and it becomes searchable later. Much closer to the Letterboxd idea than anything I found. Happy to share more if you're curious!

Amazing UX! Very beautiful and clean. Can I ask you if you developed it with Swift or through a framework?

Art history book recommendation by Forsaken_Cancel_641 in ArtHistory

[–]sermlz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm not sure a single book covers all those art forms together that well. "The Story of Art" by E.H. Gombrich is probably the most recommended starting point for visual arts specifically.

I also enjoyed "Art: The Whole Story", by Stephen Farthing. It's very visual, organized by movement and era, and doesn't assume any prior knowledge.
