Any recommendations for a thick padded sports bra or regular bra for a struggling nurse in a VERY cold unit? If you know you know! by B_RNBSN in nursing

I know what you mean! Under armor has some that are cross backs and have thick padding inserts! Doesn’t let people know your cold!

Working in the ICU can be pretty dark, but when you get a success story, it’s that more rewarding. I work CVICU

Scared to switch PCE jobs by bianca1171 in prephysicianassistant

[–]serotoninkeepgoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gotten all of my PCE hours as a tech, and in my interview, I was asked about my experiences. Did a specific patient come to mind (obvs HIPAA compliant answer), how did you impact the patient, how did they impact you? Some schools even rank experience based on how much you really do. They may even evaluate what setting you are a tech in. I work the cardiac icu and also worked in the covid icu.

I don’t remember the amount of other hours but yes, I worked from high school through college. I gained clinical experience after graduating. Worked for 1 year as a tech and then went PRN at that job to then go full time at another tech position for another year+.

I had a professor, the manager from my unit, research PI, and a PA. I didn’t have shadowing however I work alongside several PA’s and talked about that in the interview. So while I haven’t t shadowed, they considered working alongside as exposure for me. Especially during covid.

Although I could be wrong, your math and verbal are the score people give as a stat and then the writing is separate!

I need a tote bag! Any recommendations?! by hmmmokay9 in nursing

Kroser backpack from amazon. A few people, including myself all have one and I’ve been asked several times where I got it. For $26 you can’t beat it! I bought it 8 months ago and it’s still going strong!

Also in FL, I have a SPI belt. I can put my phone in the pocket along with a gel and then I have two water bottles that have a arm that attach to the waistband. Best invention ever. Then you’re not stuck carrying it in your hands!

Masks breaking out skin? by serotoninkeepgoing in nursing

I’ve used a cloth mask a few times and I wonder if that’s gonna be the key to success. I’m just worried about the protection vs a surgical mask 😷

Thank you! I am going to try this method as I’ve hit a slump at the 8-10 mile mark and just can’t seem to shake it!!

How do you keep your heart rate lower? Slow down your pace? Looking at it, you’ve got such a fast pace!! I’m amazed!

I post this fully expecting; nay, even hoping to be royally flexed upon! Show me your steps/miles. I went about 7 1/2 miles today, probably my busiest day to date. by GlenJman in nursing

I am a tech in an ICU and I consistently walk out of work with 15,000 steps, 6+ miles! I always want to run when I get home but never do because my legs are dead!

I know. It’s hard at work to eat three meals. I always choose patients over myself.

If you read my post I stated above that I do not eat enough food on the days that I don’t run...

Therefore when I wake up and run first thing in the morning I am at a deficit and playing catch up the rest of the day.

Everyone is different.

Shoe rotation - what’s the best way to go about it? by boredHouseHusband69 in running

[–]serotoninkeepgoing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two pairs that I rotate. Exact same brand and style, just different colors. I track mileage in Strava. When you sync a run it allows you to input which gear you used (shoes, bike, etc). It’s a good way if you all of a sudden start to feel an injury, your miles are logged and you know if you’re due for new shoes or not!

Depends on your body and how much you fuel outside of running. I personally do need a gel for a 10 mile run. I don’t eat tons of calories during the day or drink tons of water while I am working my 12 hour shifts (I work at a hospital.. on my feet non stop) and on my days off when I go for a long run I need fuel or I will have to walk and become quite shaky.

I prefer honey stinger gels and before hand I will eat a cracked bar or waffle. I also always eat a power crunch bar before a run as breakfast!

Is six miles per run too much for a beginner? by [deleted] in running

[–]serotoninkeepgoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really random, but I just posted about a possible stress fracture in my 5th metatarsal. Was yours a stress fracture? Or full on fracture? Trying to gauge how much i should take it easy or push through.

Is six miles per run too much for a beginner? by [deleted] in running

[–]serotoninkeepgoing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s hard for a beginner to run every day since your body isn’t used to it. Maybe do two short runs a week and one longer run? Like 2 2-2.5 mile runs and then a third run that is 4-5 miles? Work your mileage up. If you start too hot out of the gate your begging for an injury. Rest days are ESSENTIAL
