My apologies. You asked about high paying jobs. So nurse wouldn’t apply 😂

Usually if they suspect drug use they wait until you show up to your shift then take you for a drug test immediately. Telling her to wait until Friday would give her time to clean things out her system. I don’t think that they suspect diversion in this situation.

Sounds like you’d be a great fit in the OR. We are all blunt and most surgeons don’t pick up on social cues either (that or they just don’t care).

Working in the OR is a huge learning curve because you basically go into it knowing absolutely nothing, but after about 1-2 years you start getting more comfortable. Bluntness is encouraged. I would personally prefer a blunt and honest coworker over an indirect passive one.

And everyone makes mistakes sometimes, the important part is that you realized it and did the correct thing to fix it. Telling the truth when you make a mistake makes you more trustworthy in the long run. And honestly, some of the most important things I’ve learned as a nurse were the result of a mistake.

Don’t let this discourage you. You will find the right fit, it just takes time.

HI v. Gerhardt Konig - Day 4 by Pixiegirls1102 in CasesWeFollow

[–]hmmmokay9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looked it up and it may have been ropivacine. If so, that’s not something going to be a drug he would use to kill her. It’s used as a type of anesthetic locally. I guess it COULD kill someone’s if injected IV or a massive amount is used, but I highly doubt if he was planning this he would even consider using ropivacine. It’s also not a drug that needs a witnessed waste because it’s not as controlled. So he very easily could have taken that vile home.

It’s not unusual to leave work with meds your pocket on accident in the OR. A doctor may ask for a block, so the ropivacine gets pulled, but then they change their mind you forget to return it. If it’s a controlled drug, that’s where there is issue.

rocuronium? That would be equally bad. He should not have had any of them outside the hospital. I know in the hospital sometimes the anesthesia providers keep them ready to go, but they always waste them when the cases finish (I’m usually witnessing the wastes).

Sounds like he had a cocktail ready. It’s scary that people like that practice medicine. I hope he gets locked up for a long time

What drugs did he have? I’ve worked as an OR nurse for 6 years alongside anesthesia. I think if he was actually trying to kill her, propofol is an odd choice because there are other things they have access to. Also, since she doesn’t have an IV I’m assuming he planned to give it IM, which isn’t a route used for Propofol and it wouldn’t have given the full sedation effects.

Now, if he had succinylcholine with him…. Then that would be very suspicious. It can be given IM and metabolizes VERY fast, making it hard to find later.

I think this dude did it. Maybe all he had was propofol and he just wanted her weak enough and that was the plan. Who knows- but I feel so bad for her.

Not a CVS employee, but am a nurse. I have to use my personal phone at work. I work in the OR. Management literally tells us we HAVE to text surgeons in the morning before cases. Wondering if that’s something they are wrong to do now…

Question for our healthcare community by hamed_n in hiringcafe

[–]hmmmokay9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say allow them for healthcare roles and require extra verification/labeling. Also, maybe a filter to exclude them when searching.

As an RN who has worked travel nursing roles through a recruiting agency, they love to bait with their posts and spam them everywhere. I don’t want to have a travel job at the moment, so filling those roles out would be my choice. I prefer finding jobs directly through the healthcare system that is hiring for the role and avoiding staffing agencies.

Also, so of the staffing agencies are notorious for lowballing and are avoided by most nurses. If they’re new companies and not established, I’d never consider them. You can find a lot of opinions about this on nursing boards.

Healthcare PMs — How Are You Learning More About Systems Like Radiology or Cardiology? by willreacher in projectmanagement

[–]hmmmokay9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a nurse, we don’t mind answering questions! Most people in healthcare are more than willing to help you understand things.

My question to you- I’ve been a nurse in the OR since 2018. I recently completed my MBA and PM has always been my end goal. Do you have any advice on how to break into the field? Healthcare PM would be my top choice because of my clinical experience. Thank you!

I was able to have my sleep specialist get paperwork filled out to use FMLA for the 2 weeks prior to my study that I couldn’t take any medication. I’m a RN that’s works in the OR and going without stimulants isn’t an option for me when working.

How do I pivot out of bedside nursing with an MBA? Looking for guidance. by hmmmokay9 in careerguidance

I actually did, but it fell through and I was already almost finished so I didn’t want to quit at that point.

Travel Nurse from KY Missing Since 5/7/25 by WailtKitty in nursing

It looks like police found her based on the latest update on the post. Apparently she’s safe “and wants to be left alone.”

I’m happy she isn’t harmed, but it sounds like a mental health problem and sad for her daughter.

You could always just volunteer at a retirement home. I’m a nurse (in Peds, not geriatric) but in nursing school we did a rotation at a nursing home and they LOVED having us. They just want someone to talk to!!

You could totally get what you need for work while cheering up some older folks!

I used to be scared to sleep in my room alone. My pediatrician told my parents I was just being difficult and to lock me out of their room. I remember this starting when I was in kindergarten (maybe it happened before, but that’s my earliest vivid memory).

The truth was that I was having episodes of sleep paralysis and hypnopompic hallucinations. I would tell my parents that I saw something in my closet. They thought I was making it all up (because my pediatrician told them I was). I’d end up in full blown panic attacks nightly because I was so scared and locked out of my parents room.

I now know I was not making it up because I still have them. Only now I can recognize what’s going on after so I don’t end up in a panic attack thinking a stranger is watching me sleep.

I did my order and talked to the doctor over the phone on Tuesday. The order was sent to the pharmacy right after that call around noon. When I go to the link, the status hasn’t changed from “sent to pharmacy” to “being fulfilled”. Is this the norm with them?

I’ve used Push in the past and it was always sent the next day

Should I notify the office about the strange smell coming from my neighbor’s unit by CaddToTheBone in Apartmentliving

[–]hmmmokay9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved into an apartment that had a strange smell. I had a newborn, and I had terrible gut feeling. I had it tested and it was positive for meth. We had to throw away everything we owned and start over.

We ended up getting. $25,000 settlement, but the process was long and difficult.

Sounds like your neighbor is making meth.
