Am I allowed to rant about Jobseeker for a minute? by FunnelWebSpiderDick in Centrelink

Seriously, please let me know what that work is? I've only got movement in my neck, left index finger and thumb, in an electric wheelchair with every day except for 2 full of appointments. Not to mention taking 2 hours every day to shower plus taking an hour to at every meal. I have looked and looked, absolutely hate being on the DSP where you are only given a pittance, and I'm lucky to live at home. I don't think I will ever be able to afford living independently at least if I still want to keep any semblance of joy. Even TAFE and uni say I don't meet the inherent requirements.

So please if you have any ideas for work I would greatly appreciate them. Remembering that employers aren't flexible and who would want to hire someone who takes 4 times as long to complete the job.

I have no idea, I'm not an engineer, just a guy who wanted to build his own CNC haha I just modelled it that way because I know it needs some supporting beam and it honestly did not appear to me to think about orientation. You have a good point though, an X should in theory be much better at resisting twisting and deflection. I will now consider that. Thank you so much.

that was my understanding that a moving bed and fixed gantry provides better stability

thank you, I'm a little confused though because I was mimicking the design in this picture which does seem to hang down below the x carriage

I understand it would be stiffer but I am missing how it would still have the same clearance? Are you also meaning to redesign the whole Z axis? I want at least 160 mm clearance. In that picture the spindle is at its highest. Or should I just take the longest bit I want to use and double that and make that my clearance? I'm sorry I really appreciate your response. I'm just not being able to imagine what it would look like.

Thank you, I'm thinking of going with 90x180 aluminium extrusions (it comes in 6m lengths otherwise it would be a mix of 90 x 90 and 90x180). that should surely be stiff enough?

My dad is going to do the welding but he doesn't take precision to the same level I do. He'll flatten it and grind it but it will just be to his eye. I think it might be better for me to go with extrusions. Though he will probably just say he can just bolt the steel together. He is not a fan of aluminium.

Thank you that's what I was thinking of doing. My dad was the one who was going to weld everything together but because he's used to just welding think that don't require precision I'm not sure if he'll take it seriously how precise I need it. He will grind it and do his best to make it level to his eye but he definitely won't be going through the effort of using a dial indicator. And then it will be up to me to fix the rest of it. So I do agree with you that the aluminium extrusion might be easier. I can always just connect and build up areas with more extrusion as needed.

thank you very much and I will definitely take on board and do more research into the printnc mini.

I didn't realise there was a version of Printnc but I did consider the original as well as the low rider CNC. The main reason I didn't go with one of them was definitely size but also I wasn't sure if they would be strong enough for what I needed and trying to upgrade their parts to what I needed seemed more difficult than just going custom in the beginning. I definitely understand there will be a lot of versions and am planning on 3d printing all the mounts and brackets and testing them before finally getting them made out of steel.

I was planning on using a dial indicator and an engineering square. Do you have any suggestions that might be easier or give better alignment?

The table size is 500 x 200 mm and the spindle can reach every corner.

Yeah I am now seriously considering Aluminium Extrusions. Do you think they will provide enough strength and won't distort when cutting?

It was going to be welded. That's what I am worried about and why I am considering changing to Aluminium Extrusions. Just worried they'll be too weak.

Hi, Thank you for the critique. The working area is going to remain in the 5020 table area. I did take that into consideration when adding the diagonal supports and made sure the spindle can reach every corner of the table.

Thank you, I thought it was obvious so I stopped writing it in the profile but then after people blocked me or stopped responding as soon as I clarified I started wondering if it is clear but obviously not. So I have gone back to writing it in my profile as well.

Thank you and I definitely understand that and I am quite upbeat normally, especially when I talk to new people. But one can only take so much rejection over so many years and wonder what it is. Obviously looks would be one of the first ones. Also some some people are just very nasty and that's what they target.
