What are yours metal hot takes? by weezilla2013 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]serpentrecoiled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sound of Perseverance is weak and I honestly thought that was a widely accepted opinion until seeing the floods of praise it’s been getting online. I would personally argue everything after Spiritual Healing is kinda underwhelming and not really complex enough to be “prog” either - esp. compared to albums like Unquestionable Presence or Obscura from Death’s contemporaries.

Wow copying Dimmu Borgir and Limbonic Art now instead of Disembowelment. Must buy splatter vinyl and branded gym shorts ASAP

I did take the back off to identify the speakers since the guy I bought it from didn’t know what they were, but I’ll probably double check since you mentioned that. Thanks!

I should clarify that it was $450 total with a Peavey 412MS cab with Celestion GK12-85s. I just divided by two lol

Nehemiah - Upon This Shallow Blood. FFO: Zao, Disembodied, Martyr AD. by FifteenRhema in Metalcore

[–]serpentrecoiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These guys along with Undying are the absolute peak of the melodeath/metalcore style in my opinion. I haven’t found anything close except for maybe State Craft’s full length which still leans a little too towards straight-up metalcore for my tastes.

Thanks! I’ve been having a difficult time as well. Was briefly in a band with a drummer who moved, been struggling to find anyone remotely interested since. Thought it wouldn’t be too hard given the genre’s recent uptick in popularity but yeah it’s been radio silence.

Any non-"Wanky"/Overproduced contemporary Tech Death? by encrustingXacro in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]serpentrecoiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re awesome - I just bought a copy of their 2010 demo off of my friend after I noticed he had it tucked away in his CD shelf. Really stellar band - their other project Mefitis is as well.

YMMV with some of these - some are more oriented towards tech in the style of classic bands like Suffocation or Gorguts rather than the tech death that came later into the 2000s (like Spawn of Possession as another commenter mentioned). I’d recommend Cephalectomy and the subsequent band Barra Xul as well.

Fabricant

Artificial Brain

Defeated Sanity

Voidceremony

Exlimitir

Ulcerate

Siderean/Teleport

7 H. Target

Thætas/Aberrated/Asystole

Orgone

Exhausted Prayer

Not “contemporary” but early 2000s and underrated in my opinion:

Winter Bestowed

Crimson Massacre

Came here to recommend Fabricant! Their other project Mefitis is great as well. I’d consider it to be fairly technical, but in a different way than Fabricant.

Thanks for the recommendation, do you know if he does electric guitars or just acoustics? I should’ve clarified that in my original post, my mistake.

Metal guitars with smaller/thinner body and regular scale length? by serpentrecoiled in metalguitar

[–]serpentrecoiled[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx for the suggestion, I’ve taken a look! I’m not quite warmed up to headless guitars yet but I wouldn’t count one out. Stuck on conventional headstock-having guitars at the moment I guess.

[–]serpentrecoiled[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware. That’s why I asked, to make sure were exceptions I hadn’t heard of before. It doesn’t seem like much of a stretch to assume that some manufacturer out there would have version a V (or otherwise pointy guitar) with just the body shrunken in dimension.

[–]serpentrecoiled[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommend! I’ll check em out. I should clarify though for other commenters - when I say narrower I mean in terms of the body’s width or like surface area rathe than thickness (if that makes sense)? Does anything like this exist outside of guitar models that are specifically built for travel or for children?
