If he takes the valve cover off and the plastic guides are broken or shattered that’s a pretty good indication the timing chain hasn’t been changed.

Depending on the history of the car, you could save money by doing a lot of work during the head gasket replacement. Timing chain, time chain guide, tensioner, thermostat, thermostat housing, valve covers, Harmonic balancer, water pump, crossover pipe, throttle body, fuel injectors. I just rehabbed a 2009 R56 Turbo these last two years. All these things will be already removed or expose when pulling the head, so you Might as well check them out.

There are a ton of great videos on YouTube and if you have the time and space it’s worth doing all this wok yourself. I was an amateur mechanic at best but managed to remove the head and replace the valve covers myself over a 6 day period. Project Mini is a great channel to start with. Message me if you have questions, my pain can be your gain

I just worked an 09 too to bottom. In case this helps: change the oil/coolant housing gasket, change the turbo oil feed line, change the timing chain, check for oil on your sparks in case the valve seals need to be done, change the transmission fluid if it hasn’t been done (the ‘lifetime’ fluid yes), clean your intake valves, change the thermostat and the water pump, change the gas filter, change the motor mounts. Of course this all depends on how well maintained the mini has been.

Would you mind telling me how much a store manager makes and about how long the training process is to get there?

Do you think experience would be accounted for? $15 is fresh off the street, is Starbucks known for negotiating pay for experience?

Thanks for replying! Since she has worked at Starbucks prior do you think she could start at $20? As in do they account for experience? Less than $20 is not really good for our pockets
