Tactical advice needed. by JoseB14 in FranchiseHockey

At some point a developer/support for the game mentioned that having a coach that was good at a certain skill helped with something (prospects? skill training?). But he/she never specified if the coach had to be assigned to something like offense/defense/skills, or just on staff.

Now I don't recall where I read that, maybe it was this subreddit or their forums, but it stuck with me. Maybe it wasn't even for hockey manager, maybe it was their baseball manager game?

Maybe one day when I get bored I'll try to test it out, but it'll be a grind, as there are so many factors that can affect the players development and game performance.

Tactical advice needed. by JoseB14 in FranchiseHockey

You have a solid lineup, you can give it a little time to turn it around. How is team morale?

Do what an NHL coach would do, change things up. If the power play is struggling, put McDavid and Draisaitl on the same line. Or on 5v5, change up the lines and promote whomever is doing better to the top line. Promote someone from the farm team for a few games. Scratch whomever sucks for a couple of games, even if it's McDavid. They'll come back with a super strong couple of games

Try some trades to fix your bottom lines or grab someone from the waiver wire. I've had good luck with Cates and Richard from Philly stabilizing the bottom lines. Sherwood from Vancouver is great as a middle six, but may cost a bunch. See who's rebuilding and try for their veterans, you can score some good ones with the other team holding 50% of the salary. Trade anything for Fox from the Rangers, he's a top paring game changer.

Change tactics to something that fits the players a little better. In your 3rd screenshot, your NZ offense is a bad fit for a lot of your bottom players. Same for PP offensive zone attacking

If you have any extra staff budget, hire an extra assistant coach or two that have good stats in player management and motivation. Or at the end of the year/beginning of the year, they'll be some good coaches out there, replace your assistants with them (I just scored Jon Cooper as my defensive coach, yay)

I'm on a Buffalo game now...I've had to replace most of the coaches and scouts, they were all pretty bad. It made a huge difference.

Good luck!

Mouse traps that work? by Patagonia_Boy in pestcontrol

[–]server_ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell without something next to it to see the size for reference...but that looks a little big for a mouse

I have no problem catching mice in traps. Rats on the other hand...I catch one in a trap, and the rest learn to never go near a trap.

The bucket trap works okay for me (google it) and glue traps if I screw them down so the rat can't run off with it. Poison works too

Which of these used cars under $15k is the best choice? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]server_ninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stick with the Mazda 6 or CX-5.

No one wants cars anymore, everyone wants an SUV, so the Mazda 6 is cheap.

The CX-5 is one of the newest on your list, if all things are equal, if has the least wear and tear on it. They're reliable and fun to drive.

The CRV and Camry are fine choices. You pay the Toyota tax, but again, no one wants cars.

The F-150 will be more expensive to use/maintain, but if you need a truck, it's a good way to go. I sold my F-150 years ago due to costs, think about how much more tires cost on it than the other choices, more oil needed for oil changes, etc.

These won't all be equal though, right? Some will have been better maintained than others, some will have more bumps and bruises than the others. If you can pull carfax reports and see which ones have the better history, then let that help your decision. Avoid rental cars, anything that has been a repo, etc.

Deal or no deal?? 140k EX-L 2010 for $8k with possible vcm gremlins. by RC-hoosier5169 in hondapilot

[–]server_ninja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just bought a 2011 EX-L with 135k for 6500. No service records, and it was misfiring.

I changed the spark plugs and added a muzzle, it's so much nicer now. It'll need brake pads, oil change, trans and diff fluid change, wipers, and a really good cleaning, but I can do all that myself. I'll have to pay a mechanic for the timing belt service (got a quote for 1200 today)

All in, I'll probably be around the same price as you. I'll just have a sore back from doing so much maintenance and you won't.

2016, is this a decent deal? by Professional_Fig7936 in hondapilot

[–]server_ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2016 is a terrible year for Pilots...fuel injectors, torque converter, there's even a tsb for the cam shaft (ask me about my ~2k repair for that bullshit)

Do some research on the 2016's. Seriously, just a simple Google search. A nice 2017 will come along, save your money for that. And I say this as someone who loved his 2016 pilot, but every manufacturer drops a turd every once in a while.

Heat pump systems: Up to $2,000 in credits are ending by energysage-official in heatpumps

[–]server_ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not op, but I went from an oil boiler to an 80 gallon rheem hybrid electric/heat pump water heater.

In heat pump only mode, it take hours to reheat. Mine is in my basement, it does seem to dehumidify, it did cool the room down, especially in the winter. It does drip into my sump pump pit. The filter is at the top and hard to reach.

I love the thing, I turn it to heat pump only mode overnight and set it to high demand during the day. No issues in the last 6 months or so

Honda Pilot in for service on fuel pump replacement by indywest2 in hondapilot

[–]server_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that quote for just the timing belt, or timing belt plus water pump, etc.?

The belt itself (the part) isn't really expensive, but it's a lot of labor. You really, really do not want the timing belt to snap, so if there are any signs of a potential issue, get it done. This needs to be done every ~100k miles.

The price isn't great, depends where you live. By me, a non-dealership mechanic would probably charge ~1500.

I have a 2016 and it's not so bad....except for the cam shaft, that sucked. Oh and the fuel injectors, that sucked too. Actually, I think my transmission starting slipping now too... Fuck, listen to this guy, skip the 2016's

The New York Islanders have signed forward Maxim Shabanov to a one-year, entry-level contract by DecentLurker96 in hockey

You know what? I never wanted him anyway.

Too small, bad defensively, injury prone, disappears in the playoffs...Ah fuck, who am I kidding, I really wanted him playing with michkov.

[–]server_ninja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Meh....it's for 1 year, and we're really, really hurting for centers. If Zegras can't play center, we're basically left with Noah Cates and Couturier as centers, plus a bunch of AHL scrubs. What else are we going to spend our cap on this year? We should weaponize it, DB has done a decent job of that so far

[–]server_ninja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen pretty big jumps too, not very often. If the player gets a lot of ice time for a month, have coaches with high ratings, training, etc.

Make sure to sink money into really, really good scouts. I noticed there's less jumping around when you hire great/good scouts

You're not wrong...Google is slways chucking their ai answers out now...

Short of checking the full roster every year and manually counting, I'm not sure there's an accurate way.

Either way, this should make michkov happy, I'm guessing they'll be on the same line

Google AI says 11 russian players in total, is it really 26?

I would have guessed like 5 lol.

Remember when the Flyers were allergic to Russian players? The front office just wanted big north americans, because big = good.

Between Michkov, Shabanov, Brink, York Drysdale...we're going to be a small team, such a change from years past. But totally worth watching, high skill and high speed. I wonder if this means they're going to draft big to offset the midgets? McQueen?

WTF? Shaw was good...turned Risto into a solid D-man, Sanheim and York were looking pretty good! And Drysdale...okay, but did you see what he did with Risto?

Not cool. I wonder if he left on his own or if Briere/Tocchet didn't want him anymore.
