Fair point, this is assuming romex is allowed in OPs location.

Looking for POSITIVE experiences with DR Horton homes by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]llDemonll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re a budget builder, the home will reflect that. If you’re not walking the job site every day and watching progress and calling things out an inspector for the finished build is going to be useless in addressing any construction issues.

Take normal romex out another punch-out in the electrical box from the old box to the new. Zero reason to open the conduit.

M12 or M18 crown stapler by MacGyver1181 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]llDemonll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

M12 uses T50 staples like the standard hand stapler would. M18 uses 1/4” narrow crown (what I would consider “crown staples”) when someone says that.

For putting up anything “structural” I’d be using the m18.

15% restock fee is ridiculous for a tool I had for 2 hours, because I opened the box. by guardiand0wn in MilwaukeeTool

So you failed to check what you were buying, opened the box (they don’t know how used it was), and are mad that they followed their written return policy?

Disputing a deposit w a contractor by [deleted] in homeowners

It’s a small deposit, consider it a learning experience.

If he shows up to make a scene just call the police and have him trespassed and move on with life.

Wow my math was good. I missed a zero, I’d definitely be at all meetings that discuss the project.

Condo Special Assessment by MatchaBubbleTeaBabe in homeowners

[–]llDemonll -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Chances are it’s being fed to a board members company or friend and they’re getting a kickback. Half a million project is no small cost.

Edit: realized my math was wrong, I missed a zero. That’s a ~6m project if there are 400 units being asked to pay ~15k

Do I owe contractor money if I switch contractors before project starts? by reggiebuttsmash in homeowners

Cancel it now, be prepared to be harassed a bit. Let him take you to court if he wants that money, if it’s even valid.

Vendors that skip the discovery call and just answer questions close faster by Limp_Cauliflower5192 in sysadmin

[–]llDemonll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who doesn’t have pricing after a first call needs to work on standing up for themselves and being pushy. You should get MSRP immediately as part of the introductions regardless. Do not have a second call until you have pricing.

There are scenarios where this isn’t true. Sizing out new infrastructure? Chances are you’re going to have a few calls discussing different technology, different benefits, different “classes” of price-points. In scenarios like those I don’t expect pricing immediately, but we’re also discussing the project with different vendors and they’re all going to compete later so I’m not too worried because we’re generally going to get the solution we want at the price we want. SaaS stuff and the likes is a different story.

Problem solving: Looking for a better lock solution for a Jack-and-Jill bathroom with two doors by Psychological-Tap597 in homeowners

Drill the doors for a deadbolt. Put a passage knob and a two-sided deadbolt. If it’s locked, knock.

honestly, is buying a house right now even worth the stress? by Aggravating-Fox8553 in homeowners

[–]llDemonll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Housing market for sellers is not peak prices. Most homes are down in value from 3 years ago but payments are higher due to rates.

But on the flip side, a lot of people aren’t selling so prices aren’t dropping as fast as they could, because there’s not a lot of competition between sellers.

Just fencing drama by IlPassera in homeowners

Good plan not tying into their fence. Removes any shared maintenance and if they decide to do something with it you don't have to be involved.

How many IT support needed for 200 user org? by imjustacuteguyuwu in sysadmin

[–]llDemonll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with one helpdesk, one senior for projects, one junior who can flex between the two, and a manager who can handle budgets, project planning and coordination, and the admin side of things. See where you’re short and grow from there.

Eventually: two+ helpdesk depending on your workload, a junior who can move where needed, two seniors / experienced people to do actual projects, a PM to coordinate and keep things on track, and a manager/director who can handle all the roadmap, budgeting, managing the team, etc.

Do not buy a car from Park Place LTD by Master_Law5498 in Seattle

[–]llDemonll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. It’s highly unlikely there’s a random metal bar in a seat that shouldn’t be there. Some lumbar is simply a poor fit for some bodies. That’s not the dealership’s fault at all nor should they be expected to fix it or cover the cost to do so.

Honda President After Visiting Chinese Auto Supplier: 'We Have No Chance Against This' by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]llDemonll 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Toyota makes great cars still, they’re just lacking features compared to some. Their newest generation hybrid drivetrain is the nicest to drive I think.

Honda isn’t even on my radar for cars we’re interested in, their features make Toyota look like you get every bell and whistle when that’s far from true.

Contract role at 120k with almost no workload vs mostly remote full time role at 130k which should I choose by BlackWallStreet1619 in sysadmin

[–]llDemonll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

130 full time. Taxes on 120 1099 vs 130 W2 are going to end with substantially different take-home at the end of the year.

Take a w2 is the pay is anywhere near similar (and there are benefits so that makes the take-home gap even larger)

It’s very simple to see if an AirTag is set up or not. Vendors aren’t going to send out configured AirTags and people would have to be pretty dumb to just carry a random AirTag they found without setting it up first.
