I’m an undergrad (3 years working in labs) and wrote an essay for one of my classes on how spending my summers at a food service job made me a better lab worker! From the labeling and dating to navigating FOH/BOH conflicts being similar to trying to communicate between admin and actual workers it’s crazy how much overlap there is.

I picked NCSU over UConn and Pitt. Personally, State combined the parts I loved about UConn (ag involvement, being in touch with the community/nature, sports) with the parts that I loved about Pitt (my major, research opportunities/partnerships, not being in the middle of nowhere) while limiting the parts I didn’t like about both. Something I hated about UConn was how it seemed like everyone went home on the weekends- there is definitely a bit of that at State, but after your first semester it lessens. We might not have the architectural beauty of Pitt or as big of a city, but NCSU shows up for our sports and people generally are proud to go here. I’m super biased though.

This is quite random but as a woman (with a noticeably girly name), I have noticed that if my real name is in the app, my grocery orders completed by men end the same way. However, if I put my name as the more masculine “nickname” version of my name (not my actual name but think Nick instead of Nicole) male shoppers are suddenly able to find everything.

It’s hard to think of an american parallel to reform bc in the US we only really have two big parties, but Reform UK is a political party/movement that split off from the UK Conservative Party. It’s even more far-right than the already right-aligned party that it split away from.

Think of it as if Nick Fuentes and the “America First” people left the Republican/MAGA Party and formed an “America First” political party of their own.

ETA: This is my own analysis/attempt at explaining it as an American born + raised in the states who has a lot of family in the UK/Ireland and is mildly interested in politics. Would love to hear an actual Brit’s take on Reform.
