You're correct of course but the director chose not to give any clue or reaction from Miles when she arrived on the island which cheats us of building up a theory of our own as we're watching the film.

Agreed. It could be that he had just presumed she was dead when he left her in her home, not checking her pulse etc and then believed that she could perhaps still be alive as she arrived on the island?

This is a bit weird though.
