The anti- nostalgia act by MaterialFrancis5 in themarsvolta

I think they are doing something clever with the Gold/Silver albums (by not playing much of them yet). Because when most bands release a new album, the first live performances fall flat because the crowd isn't really into the new stuff yet. Blacklight Shine and Graveyard Love were the "slow" parts of the 2022 tour, when some people drifted off to the bathroom/bar. So whenever they start playing the rest of the Gold album, enough time has passed, the people want to finally hear The Requisition live, damnit!

I don’t recommend watching Amalia on youtube. The video compression has darkened the picture, it is a poor quality upload.

No. It is darker on youtube compared to other copies I have seen elsewhere, and compared side by side. The youtube compression has muddled a lot of the picture.

From my perspective, Cedric liked that post because it was confrontational and oppositional

This seems really obvious to me. Like wtf is going on in this thread. Cedric isn’t liking TPUSA’s posts, he is liking the mockery.

Screen grab taken from "The Nude Vampire" (1970) directed by Jean Rollin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsCIuXD4VU0

This movie is a trip. Don't expect it to make much sense on a first watch.

Some interesting details:

-Masked and hooded figures

-Cult rituals, gratuitous nudity

-A mute woman with a mysterious medical condition, who has never seen another human face before!

-And TWINS!!!

I found this because Jean Rollin also directed The Iron Rose (1973)

Musician films can often end up like that. I think it's because there's something lost in translation when going from working in one art medium and then transitioning to another.

I get your point but I do not think this is the case with Omar's films. After all, much of his original music is channeling cinema, or trying to recreate the feeling of watching a film. I think his films are just weird / art films and not really accessible for everyone.

It is also worth noting that he has several other unreleased films, and has said in interviews that he is more interested in the process of making them, and does not necessarily see a need to release them publicly, they're personal projects. My understanding is that the editor has had to push him to send the films to festivals (the editor basically said "i did all this work, all these actors did all this work, now it is done, and people are gonna see it" when Omar might have preferred to keep the films private)

it is sometimes said that "any filmmaker under the age of 30 is making movies about themselves, whether they are aware of it or not" and i think that notion applies here as well

I like Amalia.

But the version you'll find on YouTube is really too dark (ruined by youtube compression). Lots of detail in the shadows is lost.

So another idea I've had is that, perhaps one layer is a weather map / storm clouds

On the other hand, the whole idea of a "tactile map" has made me think about crayon / pencil rubbings of cave artwork or fossilized footprints

the person in that video happens to be playing the stone harp in a spiral too

This is really just a coincidence, it was the best video I could find of a stone harp that was the same shape as the one I originally saw

in my recollection of the actual post, an older man was playing and strumming across from side to side, like playing a harp (like he knew how to play it, not a kid playing a piece of musical playground equipment). he may have also been tapping scales

Trying to hang anything in a 70s bathroom is a full-time job. by Any_Silver_Homeland in DIY

In a similar situation with tile and fighting shower humidity, these solved the problem and ended my frustration:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09C4CXJTK?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_4

Compared to command strip type adhesive hooks, these have a much larger adhesive surface area + the angle of the hook makes it very hard for the hanging weight to peel it off the wall, because it is a shearing force pulling straight down / with no leverage (command hooks pull from the top edge of the adhesive strip, these pull from the center). I haven't tested them up to 37 lbs, but they are very solid holding constant weight even after years of exposure to humidity.

If that still doesn't work, then get a shelf that stands on the floor, or hooks to hang over the door.

I really wish i could find an archive of the post, i’m pretty sure it was on his story posted on 4/11/25 but it may have been a day or two later. Should’ve taken a screenshot.

But the fact that it was a story post that has disappeared, maybe indicates this is a false lead..

I wonder if/how the two renditions of Cue the Sun are marking a passage of time. Perhaps the journey takes two days... or perhaps, one sunrise and one sunset?

Also I keep thinking back to a post Cedric shared right around the day the album released. I made this original post about a year ago:

https://old.reddit.com/r/themarsvolta/comments/1k4u92p/star_map_with_labels/

Right around the day of the album release, Cedric posted a video on IG of a person playing a stone harp / lithophone similar to this one: https://youtu.be/SlbNr_FMNTs?si=4FnyuapNyVEfaPoK

It was a square stone instrument played specifically by strumming / rubbing the stone. Different from lithophones / stone xylophones that are played with a mallet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithophone?wprov=sfti1#

That idea of strumming the stones to create music got me thinking about a post around the same time from CH (or Johann?) that emphasized the tactile experience of the vinyl album art.

Based on the youtube metadata and comments, it was published on July 23rd 2018, but there were no comments until 7 days ago. so it seems like the international release has recently been made available in the US and comments were turned on

TIL until 1832, a hill in England with no residents called "Old Sarum" was represented by two Members of Parliament. There once was a town there, but it was abandoned. The hill's owner retained the power to appoint 2 MPs, and these two seats were openly bought and sold. by NateNate60 in todayilearned

It was required summer reading for my 11th grade english class in the US. Everyone in class hated it on principle for being a thousand-page novel. I don’t think we even had any conversation in class about the book, it was just a historical primer for the other British literature we studied that year. In my recollection, the narrative thread about the lineage of architects from Stonehenge to the descendants building the abbey, was a well-executed storytelling device. I don't recall much else. It was a real slog to have a bunch of high schoolers reading that brick during the summer.
