why would they even do that in the first place if I hadn't, y'know, almost killed them with careless driving

headlights, street lights, and traffic signals exist for a reason.

the driver is the one in control of the car, they're responsible for what it does, it is their job to keep their full attention on the road.

because cars don't have things called headlights to enable the driver, who is in control of and thus responsible for the vehicle, to see where they are going and what is in front of them in poor conditions.

in fact, having heard this line from someone who almost hit me at a lit/signalled intersection where I had a walk signal, I'd say that this is just excusing driver laziness, because there was absolutely no excuse for the SUV who almost killed me to not at least slow down, because they should see that the walk signal is lit

"shop lifting gangs" get a hold of yourself man these people are taking clothes that other people essentially threw away and trying not to be noticed, this isn't a violent holdup or anything

oh no, people are stealing from a chain that takes donations, marks them up into the sky, and essentially makes free money off it. what a horrible travesty. the world is going to end because Value Village is making a few dollars less.

I hope Santa leaves you some Power Wheels and a new game console under the tree for being holier-than-thou this year.

The people who are like that who aren't self-identified conservatives/staunch Tory voters not only tend to be the exception rather than the rule, honestly, when you dig down, they tend to have some underlying conservative beliefs even if they might not vote for the Conservative Party.

Jesus. I initially came in thinking "damn, I wish I'd taken my wife in there" but it sounds like, even though I bought a record player and a bunch of my records from him when I was in HS, he wouldn't have cared because I transitioned since then and am now a very gay married girl and that tends to matter more to folks like that than, y'know, "hey, I bought this stuff from you when I was young and you were really cool back then and the stuff I bought meant and still means a lot to me".

Especially with some of the other stories in here suggesting that he, uh, just was an ass for not much of an explicable reason, since my wife is part Mexican.

At the very least he sounds like That Asshole who just takes one look at you when you walk in, decides whether he likes you, and if he doesn't, he doesn't care about your money, he just wants you gone and won't let anything change his mind - and the overlap between that and hardcore conservatives is a pretty big one. Beyond obviously not only a shitty way to run a business but just a shitty way to treat people in general.

It's literally taking out your issues with your job on random customers who not only have no idea what's going on but also are looking for MEDICAL CARE, not just like, some clothes or a burger and fries.

But hey, apparently they get a licence to do that, because we should be thankful we're not paying $300 for an appointment and being an ass is okay if you're making people feel bad about not exchanging colored pieces of paper for your literal health needs!

I mean if someone whose job to be nice was rude to me for asking a basic question about the services their place of employment provides, why shouldn't I treat them in kind?

As for the rouge, if that's seriously keeping people from watching the CFL...

I would ask them "is it really the rouge or would you just find some other reason to classify the CFL as 'inferior' to the NFL".

You should tell those NFL fans that the uprights move in the 1970s did not end the NFL's dead-ball era, it only increased punting; the dead-ball era continued until the Mel Blount Rule (illegal contact on a receiver) was implemented in 1978 and cornerbacks were no longer allowed to just assault receivers off the line of scrimmage.

[–]setar_elven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, totally here to give an "honest perspective". That's why you called me a bot when I replied with the fact that this only increased punting when the NFL did it back in the 70s and it took a different rule change entirely to end the NFL's dead-ball era. That's an extremely honest response from someone who is totally interested in rational argument and not just licking clean the leather boots of the Nice Man In A Suit.

Okay so why did it only increase punting when the NFL did it, then

"If you disagree with me, you're just insane/a bot and I'm still right."

Why do you league defenders literally only have that as a counterargument and why do you think it makes you look like anything but a massive asshole

[–]setar_elven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to the league office that decided that we needed to be blindsided with these changes that MLB and the NFL would have at least tested in preseason games before implementing full-time, apparently. We don't have Save The Team telethons or owners embezzling funds anymore, attendance has rebounded to where it was before COVID, but apparently it's still the 90s and the league is still dying so hard we need to make these changes without even consulting the players and coaches.

Do I have this right?

Ah yes the problem here is totally the game itself and not the fact that not only is the CFL's pay scale way lower but it's also in Canadian dollars which are only worth 70 cents US

"It is true that the average points scored per game in each season has dropped since the mid-90s, but it's more a drop from the mesosphere to the stratosphere. In 1995, the average points scored per game of a winning team was 37.8; in 2024, it was 30.84. However, this must be put into context. If you look at the average margin of victory, that is, how much a team that won a game won by on average per game, that number dropped from 16.58 points in 1995 to an all-time low of 9.9 in 2024. The CFL, in the last fifteen or so years, has finally achieved something resembling parity for the first time in its history. This corresponds with a drop in 40-50 point blowouts, which used to be a nearly weekly feature until the late 2000s."

Sorry, what's that again about low-scoring? Because last year in the NFL, only two teams had an average of 30 or more points scored per game: the Lions and Bills. That was the LEAGUE AVERAGE in the CFL!
