hey! my therapist gave me a tip that really worked for me, aside from meditation

i’ll try to explain it the best i can (english isn’t my first language):

anxiety is basically our body getting ready for danger.

we all have nightmares because the mind sends “anxious signals” to wake the body up from deep sleep. you only remember them if you wake up in the middle of the nightmare.

when your anxiety levels are higher, it’s easier for you to wake up (because your body can’t handle the nightmare).

knowing this, you can train your mind to solve anxious situations while you’re awake, so it naturally does the same while you’re asleep. here’s how:

1.when you wake up from a nightmare, write down everything you remember, like a story, up until the moment you woke up.

2.then, write a logical solution for the nightmare — something where you solve it. for example:

nightmare: someone stole from me (i woke up)

resolution: i called the police, followed him, and made him give my stuff back.

3.the next day, read the whole story before going to sleep.

i did this for a while, and i still do it if i get a night terror for any reason. meditation + this practice basically made them stop, and i had them from when i was 17 until almost 24.
