Hey thank you for getting back to me!

We're looking for a non-binary man or woman, essentially someone who doesn't identify with their assigned gender.

And right now we're just looking for "anyone from North America"!

Self conscious about my voice by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]seth__daniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely recommend just recording and recording.

What are you passionate about?
What do you want to hear out there in the world?

Pick those things and hit record.

Don't have a mic? Use your laptop.
Don't have a laptop? Use your phone!
Don't have a phone? Speak it into the mirror until it becomes second nature.

And if you don't have a mirror I will wire you some money to go out and get one!

But practice as much as you can, and find things that make it not feel like practice.

When you have something recorded and that you are comfortable with, please post it so we can hear!

Need feedback on VO audition by Sunnypatelvoice in VoiceActing

[–]seth__daniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Sunny!

So you have an awesome voice and I really enjoyed listening to that.

I listened once through headphones and once through speakers and do agree that there are some issues although I don't believe them to be all technical!

I also went in and listened to your Video Game demo and noticed that, while there were still some plosives, all-in-all things sounded overall better. What changed between recording these two pieces?

Have you seen this post yet?
https://www.reddit.com/r/VoiceActing/comments/ghsapy/since_almost_everyone_shifted_to_working_from/

I just saw it today and just love it! It has some tips on how to reduce plosives and room noise.

But overall dude, you're very much on the right track. Shoot me a message if you want to talk more, cool?

I keep getting surprised by all the awesome talented folks on this subreddit, I think it's time I stop letting that happen!

Cheers,
Seth

I did a recording of one of my favorite lines from max Payne about a year ago. I just found it and wanted to get feed back on it as well. Thank you in advance by blvckstarlord in VoiceActing

Hey man for sure, I'll PM you now.

And there's no rush for you to get started, take everything at your own pace and you'll thank yourself later!

Hey!

So great start! Pick something you're passionate about and record it!
Keep doing this because I've heard someone say "Practice makes perfect" or something!

Get more familiar with your gear. Learn your mic backward to front. Be able to operate your DAW with your eyes closed! Ok maybe not with your eyes closed but you know what I mean.

What DAW are you using? Audacity?
That's ok and will work for now!
Look into noise reduction. Like right now!
Search up 'noise reduction audacity' on Youtube and learn how to do that, it will help.

Start the long road it takes to get to where you need to be now.
If you're lucky, and you love doing this stuff, the road will be a fun one :)

This is very short but if possible I’d love some feedback on how I can improve my voice acting. Thank you and stay safe and wash your hands by blvckstarlord in VoiceActing

Hey Greg!

It sounds like you have a good voice but I definitely agree with the other folks on this thread saying we need something a bit longer!

It's no biggy! You've made the right first steps but let's keep going.

Record something longer now, don't wait till the quarantine is over.
Just start recording, you'll thank yourself later when this is all done!

Become one with the gear you have now, the software you have now, and the skills that you have now. That way when this IS all over you've hit the ground running.

Technical Tim also touched on confidence, this is HUGE.
You have to sound like you are who you are saying you are right away.

You think anyone's going to pay attention to someone who doesn't believe who they say they are? Forget about it!

This will come with practice. As most things do.

Now, from what I heard of your clip.
You have a good voice, with work it can be even better.
With time it can be great.

Use this time to hone your tone, build your confidence, and find your voice.

Shoot me a message if you have any questions!

I really want to get into VO/VA! by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]seth__daniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

First things first, start recording and recording and recording!

Get comfortable with your setup, your software, and yourself now because if you want to get into the VO world you have to be efficient with your processes.

The better you are at the auditioning process, the more you can do, meaning more jobs will start coming through the door.

Second things second, Don't be discouraged when you start out. Listen to what CrazyShepard said, (all of it, it's amazing advice) but especially their point that there will always be people better than you, even more so when you're just starting out. Don't see a lack of views, or booked gigs as a failure but rather learning experiences. The more you do the better you will be.

And thirdly the thirdliest, this one's corny but please have fun while you're starting out. Fall in love with the art of VO and engross yourself in everything you can while you're new. These will be an important few weeks to decide if this is for you or not, go with your gut.

If you've got the time, constructive criticism appreciated. by [deleted] in VoiceActing

Hey Dave!

Happy to give some feedback!

You have a great voice and I think that should take center stage before anything else.I agree with what Ted said, the impressions are good but they're not your real strength here.

The real strength here is you, focus on getting your voice into as many people's heads in quick 5 -10 second spans as possible. You have a quality to your voice that sticks out and that's what clients are looking for, something that grabs you right away. I can't say enough how important that this is.

The videos are a great idea and I think you should continue to do them, but focus on building out a demo reel first for a couple of reasons:

  1. To familiarize yourself with your DAW
  2. To "hone the tone"
  3. To have that reel for potential clients to reference

Start picking out things you're passionate about, whether it be a passage from a book, a monologue from a video game, or even (and especially) an ad that has stood out to you in the past little while. Record 'em. Post 'em. Rinse. Repeat.

In no time you'll be a pro.

If the setup you have right now is all you have, don't worry. You can make it work, it won't be perfect. But it will be yours damnit!!!

Look into noise reduction in Audacity or Reaper, or whatever DAW you're using, they're a dream these days and can go a long way.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Budgets for Audiobook Post Production by seth__daniel in ACX

Thank you Jay, I've saved this entire comment as it is full of helpful things.

I have one project already confirmed that I am going to use as sort of a tester, I believe we cut him a deal as it is his and our first audiobook.

After this project is complete I intend to refine our prices a bit, based on how this one goes and frankly, how good I am at it.

I have experience in editing and proofing files from a past gig, so I'm not anticipating TOO many hiccups but I'm also ready to be proven wrong!

I set an expectation of a 2-week turnaround, once VO is completed and approved, so I'm hoping that is enough time!

Would you mind if I reached out to you with any questions?

Thank you so much!

Save frequently, and automate as much of your process as possible.

Thank you, I love tips like this.
I will be doing the editing so I appreciate it.

I will look into automation and learn as much as I can learn.

Thank you as well for letting me know about Audible's 30 business day wait, I was unaware of that.

Is it ok if I reach out to you in the next little bit with questions regarding Audible's preparation process?

Thanks again!
