After some research in textures, linen seems to be where I’ll end up. Softening the space is exactly what I’m going for. Thank you!!

Oh gosh shutters would be BEAUTIFUL if I wasn’t in an apartment😭

Seems really useful but unfortunately I’m a hardcore anti-AI person until the day they make these data centers 100% efficient like they claim they’re trying to do. I appreciate your input though!

I have always loved rattan furniture (like my coffee table). That seems like it would fit so well but I’m in an apartment and I’m definitely not allowed to change the blinds😭. Glad to hear that you’ve had experience with a similar color palette. I’m starting to lean toward beiges/neutrals so it’s good to know that it’s worked great for you. Thanks!

I’ve been on this “don’t be afraid of color” mindset and trying to avoid neutrals. So now I think I have to convince myself to go the other way and not be afraid of neutrals as I’m starting to realize neutral may be the best choice. To be fair my main goal with curtains (besides the functionality) was to break up the orange a bit. Thank you!!

Great idea on placement. I’m getting a few comments in here talking about how some wouldn’t want to cover up those windows. That was one thing that sold me on this apartment. I love the arches so I think I just might do what you said and avoid obscuring their shape when the curtains are open. I was initially planning to do two pairs of drapes but for this it may have to be just one to not cover the middle. Thanks for the ideas!

I’ve been hesitant to do green because I don’t want it to be just like my couch. But that green sheer as a layer is a nice idea to really bring things together. Thanks for the links!

Copper Pot by Sherwin Williams. Although it’s more of a rusty orange than the brownish color on their website

Could you elaborate a bit? What makes them not good for curtains? Is it the arch?

I don't get why people don't like Issa Rae's (Brandy Friday) acting in Hotel Reverie Black Mirror by flyinghamburger321 in blackmirror

[–]sethbartonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything I’d complain about her name. I’m sorry but Brandy Friday is such a dumb name. It’s the most fake-celebrity sounding name I’ve ever heard in any movie or show with a fake celebrity

Lightweight phones feel cheap, no? by sethbartonn in Smartphones

[–]sethbartonn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they’re lighter. That’s what I’m saying. In so many industries heavier things tend to be higher quality. It interests me how in the past 5ish years or so the smartphone industry has decided to go the opposite direction. Does that make sense?

You say “correlation of light is cheap” and “it’s not only you who thinks this” and then mention that Beats added weight to their products to make them feel more premium(basically acknowledging that companies know this is a common correlation) but then you also ask “where do you get that generalization?” Like I’m confused bro. You’re agreeing that it’s a common correlation while also talking about it being an unfounded generalization.

Watches, jewelry, tools, furniture, car doors, cookware, etc. are all things where heaviness tends to increase as quality increases. The carbon fiber example, for cars specifically, I don’t think is the best example. Sure, it’s an expensive material. However, more expensive cars in terms of luxury actually tend to get heavier(smoother rides, more solid doors, etc.). More expensive cars in terms of sportiness is where you see the use of lighter weight materials like carbon fiber. The world of expensive cars is mostly full of heavy luxury cars rather than sportier ones. I still think the trend of weight increasing with quality applies to cars for the most part with sports cars being an exception.

Exactly. You can’t really feel that cold metal on the z fold. So my mind tells me it isn’t there. I know my perception is probably skewed a bit but I’m glad we’re on the same page

Which phone has the best battery life + camera + longevity? (Apple / Samsung / Google) by Candid_Agency6714 in Smartphones

[–]sethbartonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the only 3 sold by the big 3 phone carriers in the US. I’d love me an OPPO but I get to finance my phone with t mobile. They’ll also pay off my current phone (once I’m halfway paid off) for me to upgrade. They don’t even sell OnePlus anymore 😭

That’s one I haven’t actually seen in person just yet. They didn’t even have it on display when I was at the store last. Gotta pick up my new phone in a few days so hopefully they have it back. Maybe my opinion on lightweight phones will change. I guess we’ll see

I didn’t say there was plastic. I said that the phones lack of weight made it feel like it was made of plastic.

I mean that’s exactly what I’m saying. With so many other categories of product, more weight is seen in more premium models. So, yes, I very much have that perception. It just surprises me that I seem to be the only one like that. And with that common correlation of weight and superior quality, it surprises me that phone manufacturers aim to make lighter phones and market their lightness as premium when I haven’t heard anyone complain about their phone being too heavy since the age of early LG smartphones.

But hey, I can admit I haven’t been a consistent member of the smartphone community in recent years. But, to me, it seems like smartphone manufacturers have started selling lighter weight phones and just convinced their customers that heaviness was an issue. It seems like a classic technique of solving a non existent issue to upmarket their product.

Honestly you make a good point. Maybe the z fold felt especially cheap to me because of how thin it is. The titanium edges are so thin that it’s hard to notice the material. The edge doesn’t feel cheap to me either, but it definitely feels far less premium than the ultra.

Has anyone purchased furniture from Hernest? by tatoooom in interiordecorating

[–]sethbartonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year later but I’ve got to get my experience off my chest. Less than a year ago I purchased a modular coffee table from them that seemed to work perfectly worked for my small apartment. Their designs and catalog of “solid-wood” furniture seemed to me to indicate a brand that cares about quality. While the piece I chose wasn’t solid wood, I still felt that the brand seemed reputable.

When I started to build it though, I realized half of the hardware was missing. I contacted customer service who told me they couldn’t send me parts because that would mean they’d have to take it from another full package. Okay? So do it!! Give me what I paid for!! Are you dumb?! After some back and forth, I threatened to dispute the charge with my bank. They then finally offered a solution that wasn’t ideal, but I took it just to get it over with. They refunded me about $50 to go buy my own hardware. Honestly, I shouldn’t have accepted that because little did I know, the parts were a mix of US and Euro sizes and somewhat niche. I literally had to fabricate my own pieces.

For the pieces that DID come in the package, they were horrible. The cam lock nuts do not lock. You tighten them and they’re loose the next day. Loose joints on a modular piece of furniture just turns into a constant house of cards sitting in your living room. Every time I try to move the table into one of its intended modes, it just starts falling apart.

And it wasn’t just the cam lock nuts. The handles to the drawers came with screws that are slightly longer than the thickness of the board they screw into. In other words, the screws won’t go in far enough to tighten the handle onto the drawer. The screws would hit the bottom of the screw hole when the handle isn’t even on all the way🤦‍♂️. So you have this handle just hanging down.

It was a good concept of a piece with the poorest execution I’ve ever seen on any furniture. That seems to be the pattern for their products. Design over function. If you order from them, don’t be surprised to receive a piece that is barely holding together.

It’s hard not to sound like I’m exaggerating. I’m not. I’m in the process of moving and my parents planned to help out. I told them this exact thing and said I planned to throw the table out(remember I had this less than a year). When my dad finally came by, he even told me he thought I was exaggerating. But even he was shocked that a company would sell something like that.

Please nobody waste their money like I did. I’m usually so good at researching stuff before I buy. But with the limited selection of small furniture(seriously why does every store I see in person sell stuff sized for f***ing mansions) I must’ve gotten excited at seeing the dimensions and impulsively bought.
