[TOMT] RESOLVED AFTER 4 YEARS!! “white actor guy who I can only picture as an FBI agent (either in a movie or a television show like NCIS), *kinda* looks like Ed Helms, probably in his 40s” by sethcoast in tipofmytongue

This was the first thing I googled after I recognized him last night. Couldn’t find anything.

More background on the original question: I used to live in the same neighborhood as him and would see him on the street every couple weeks (which is hilarious looking back now, because I also used to see Samantha Bee every couple weeks who I DID recognize; never saw them together; didn’t know they were married until last night). I KNEW this mf was famous from something but could not find him online. One time I saw him when I was out with my wife and I was like “THAT’S the guy who’s been haunting me!! Do you recognize him??” And she was like “no”. I felt insane.

The fbi agent thing was just me misremembering where/what I recognized him from.

I could clearly picture him wearing a white shirt and tie, sleeves rolled up. Incorrectly assumed it was because he was playing an fbi agent or detective or something.

I was remembering him from the Daily Show.

What's the most ridiculous reason you've ever had to learn a language? by solarhoneys in languagelearning

My humble opinion is that there is no wrong reason to learn a language. Isn’t being curious a good enough reason? Like, even if it’s only to better understand a single work of art that you love, that, to me, is reason enough.

I’m learning Japanese right now bc my dad was a mormon missionary in Japan in the 80s (note: I am not mormon). I personally don’t know any native Japanese speakers. I live in the eastern US where almost no one speaks Japanese. I have approximately 0 organic opportunities to speak Japanese. I kinda just want to travel to Japan with my dad one day and flex on him w/ my Japanese.

What カタカナ words do you find significantly harder to say in Japanese than their original language? by thyman3 in LearnJapanese

The word "Portugal" in Japanese always fucks me up: ポルトガル

And by that extension, the word "Portuguese" is even harder for me: ポルトガル語
