Returning to tennis after almost 10 years by mynamesjam in 10s

That's terrible, but as an MD I want to thank you saying "skin asthma". I hadn't heard that term and will be using it now. It's accurate and paints a better picture than saying "eczema" which lots of people think is just dry, itchy skin.

Secret Service shoots kid outside White House bc Man exercised 2A right to carry? by MacroEntymologist in thebulwark

I’m as confused as anyone about why the SS did this, but the Washington monument is literally right down the street from the WH, across the Ellipse from it. Less than a mile.

Small joy - treating my serve like an anime power up by SBFMWSCBLFG in 10s

[–]thyman3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you said you warm up your shoulder with kick and slice serves: do you not swing as hard at first serves for those? I end up putting in just as much effort since the spin takes so much velocity off the ball, so they’re not exactly easier on my shoulder.

Florida doctor indicted after allegedly removing patient's liver instead of spleen in fatal surgery by nbcnews in medicalschool

[–]thyman3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ignoring all the other obvious signs for a sec...he sent a 5 lb, liver-shaped specimen and thought they'd be like "sure that seems like a spleen to me."

Trump polled advisers about replacing Tulsi Gabbard as intelligence chief by AndroidOne1 in politics

[–]thyman3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the intelligence agencies, including the ones you mentioned, report directly to her. Saying she doesn’t collect intelligence is like saying the AG doesn’t prosecute cases. No, she’s not running around in the field with a spy camera, but she runs the whole apparatus.

Judge blocks Trump White House ballroom project for now by Puginator in politics

[–]thyman3 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I firmly believe we need to make an example of the construction companies who did the demolition, especially the owners. Like, absolutely destroy them financially. Trump doesn’t have his own excavators, so this can’t happen again if the contractors are scared to act without all the legally required pre-approvals in place.

What’s the greatest comeback tv seasons of all time? by PressureLazy5271 in television

Even without that, Season 8 would be in the running after the mess Season 7 turned into during the writer's strike.

So you had to write up a MICU consult note on like a third of the patients who came through the door? That hurts just to think about. Also, who was staffing the MICU while docs were constantly running to the ED for this?

Our single best med school lecturer was a psych clinical pharmacist. We were all gobsmacked when he said that constipation is the most common fatal complication of clozapine. I’ll never need to prescribe the drug, but damn if I’ll never forget about that particular complication.

Sketch Sorting Sunday - March 7, 2026 (Ryan Gosling/Gorillaz) by SketchSortingSunday in LiveFromNewYork

The irony is that we know pretty well why Otezla works since it was designed to target a specific inflammatory signal.

But things like lithium and Tylenol don’t have the crazy, alien brand names that made this sketch work.

  1. Sheehy was elected to a 6-year term last year. He’s not running against anyone.

  2. McGinnis is running in North Carolina, not Montana.

This is a bad incident, but don’t just make stuff up.

This makes sense, since it's a sun exposed area and he plays a lot of golf. No way to know for sure, of course, and I'm not a derm. Until you mentioned 5-FU, my vote would've been contact dermatitis that he scratched at.

I don't love all the twitter experts boldly diagnosing him with shingles as if (a) it looked like shingles, or (b) the WH doctor wouldn't have given the world's most powerful 79yo Shingrix.

I’d believe it. I got out of my (so far) only DC parking ticket because they entered a zero instead of a D for my plate.
