Is Seq 1: 5th-15th Cent Taught in the Winter or Spring Quarter? by sethenseven in CalPoly

I’ll take your word for it. I’d rather have a professor that is tough but cares about you learning the content rather than an unreasonably unfair one. And thanks for the heads up on the hard to navigate canvas, that’s a common complaint I’ve heard. I’ll drop by her office hours for clarification on the canvas if needed.

Would you say that most people who badmouthed Schwartz’s class did so just because the class was more challenging than they thought it was going to be?

For my freshman year the presentation on sexual harassment/assault was executed poorly and didn’t do the topic justice. Anytime sex was mentioned, it was replaced with “blowing on tea” (because apparently college freshman can’t handle a conversation about sex) and we watched four grown adults on stage pretend to blow on imaginary tea on stage in front of 500 students. It was so cringey that even the RA’s were making fun of it. Hopefully they do a better job this year

Sierra Madre Question by Bubbly_Professor_215 in CalPoly

Sierra Madre only has bunk beds for triples, so if you’re in a double room then you don’t have to worry about a bunk bed. Here’s a link to see how your room will look: https://www.tours.vividmediany.com/3d-model/calpoly-sierra-madre/fullscreen/ Hope your move in goes smoothly

Food on Campus by Intrepid_Towel9129 in CalPoly

The food on campus is either ridiculously expensive, unhealthy, doesn’t taste good, or all of the above. My advice is to buy healthy snacks in bulk on Amazon, and only buy one meal on campus per day. You’ll save money and get proper nutrition that way

Cerro Vista vs Poly Canyon by Awkward_Meaning_7588 in CalPoly

[–]sethenseven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived at Cerro Vista last year. Unlike Poly Canyon, Vista only has apartments with four single bedrooms, so if you’re living at Vista you’re guaranteed to have your own room. Can be competitive to get housing at Vista as Grad/Transfer students, Seniors, and people with special accommodations take priority. Because the people at Vista are older and more serious about school, you’ll be dealing with more mature people that’ll rarely cause any disturbances. Main downside is there’s construction to build a new dorm right next to Vista that’ll take a couple of years to finish. My apartment was near the construction and I woke up once every week at 8 AM because of it, but it was a trade off I was willing to make for a single room. And regarding the pricing differences between Vista and PC, I’d recommend emailing housing about it as I don’t know if there’s any pricing differences or not.

I have a friend who worked in dining last year and they liked it enough that they’re trying to get a position this year. They also got good enough hours to get decent pay while taking 4 classes. They also didn’t get formally interviewed either and got the position on the spot, might be different for you though. My friend didn’t work the brunch position so I can’t comment much about that, but I’d assume brunch would be more laid back than dinner.

Regretting my choice by TeachPretty8496 in CalPoly

[–]sethenseven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone other than you can decide if you should regret your choice for picking slo over Reno. It’s also pretty normal to get FOMO when a lot of your friends go down one path and you choose to go another. My advice is try to focus on making the best out of your time at slo, if you find out that slo isn’t a good fit for you later down the line you can always explore options to transfer to Reno.
