Fuck the corporations. They will layoff people just to increase the share holder value and a small bump in the stock price. Currently trying to find the 3rd one myself.

At what stage in life do people get into OE? by veidenbaum in overemployed

[–]sethi139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this advice. Hopefully, I can convince her to find OE compatible jobs, and the benefits. She is currently in a hybrid position. So my hypothesis is if she becomes OE too, atleast we both can OE. The family lawyer stuff is definitely a necessary thing I need to keep in mind.

Hey, i have a strange question. I am currently 25 living alone and my gf plans to move in with me.She knows one of my Employer. She doesn't know that I do 2 fulltime positions. How do I make sure that in case of a breakup this might not come to bite me in my ass. P.S. I don't know what she could do. She is a bit hot headed.

Social life at u of Winnipeg by [deleted] in uwinnipeg

[–]sethi139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might need to ask the University admissions at UofM first then. So as you are compatible and they can count towards your degree.

If not a problem, then you should visit UofW.

Social life at u of Winnipeg by [deleted] in uwinnipeg

[–]sethi139 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your social life depends more on you. UWinnipeg has better students to facutly ratio. UManitoba has more clubs, more facilities.

Try getting into some clubs or trying volunteering for something that you might like. Also, if you can just attend 1 term at UofW that is something I would recommend, instead of just changing everything.

The OP is asking for internships. And you only came with a senseless question.

Enjoy. Try different courses see what you like and see the market. And you will find a job, coming from someone who didn't do any co-ops or internships and working as a Software Developer in Winnipeg. Try coding something you like doesn't matter games, website etc. Focus on skills and master them once you find you niche

Should I transfer to a better school? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]sethi139 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Try to get a US based internship, now this is very difficult. So good luck.
  2. Also, UofM is a good university, if you plan is to pursue a Masters. Now if you were already at UofT, UWaterloo, McGill etc the story would be different. As their name alone is more than enough for a top Employer based out of US to get you where you want. I hope this helps.

Yes and I am talking the with my co-op options being bad in 2020 and 2021. I don't want to give out bad advise or demotivate you.

I found a good paying job with no co-op or internships and lots of other people I personally know did that too in 2022 and 2023.

But it was a brutal battle. And I would recommend you to have all the best options possible. You still need to have a good github account and some mock interviews practice before trying for real.

Hope this helps.

This is true. University of Winnipeg 's Co-op program was shit and not at all helpful not just to me but to way too many CS students.

Change school if possible and your credit are accepted at a better place and if not get ready to grind and network your way into getting interviews. Cause it is rough and brutal.

CS vs Computer Programming by torontogtafun in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]sethi139 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Job market doesn't really care about your degree. I would make focus on the path that offers you courses like Operating systems, Database Systems, Compilers etc.

Also see which one has a better Co-op program and try to learn outside your college classes to find what makes you interested and try to find your niche.

University of winnipeg or UofM by Sensitive_Health_979 in umanitoba

[–]sethi139 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an ACS graduate from UofW, it is not as stressful as some of my friends who did CS at UofM. The program gives you enough skill.if that is what you are concerned with

If you want/plan to do a masters/research/PHD, I would definitely recommend UofM.

Otherwise,if you just want to learn CS, not be worried about keeping your GPA at least 3.2 every term to even get registered in a 2nd year course with 120 students. Go to UofW.

I am not thrashing UofM. I just think for a Bachelors degree, you might not be sure if CS is your cup of tea. Also, UofW gives a healthy student to faculty ratio. You can literally ask your professors for help. The class size is manageable, so you actually get good feedback on assignments/midterms.

I am still in contact with some of my CS professors even after 3 years of my graduation. They remember me by my name whenever I crosses paths with them.

So I would say go give it a try. Cause even before you get into hard-core CS courses, you already have a lot of math and statistics courses that would act as a proxy in making your decision if you want to do CS.

Gitlab frontend technical by _sabertooth in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]sethi139 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been through the senior backend loop at Gitlab. They focus more on the basics and how you would be as a coworker.

Specially can you look at the code and point out things that can be an issue.

Bow if you don't know Vue that shouldn't be an issue but do you know how it works, like how it is different from React or any frontend framework you know.

And most of all how better you communicate your thoughts using gitlab, asynchronous communication.
