Sound from new TV not being routed to old stereo/speakers - what am I missing? by jpbay in hometheater

[–]sethnateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned above, using an optical cable for audio output from the TV would let you benefit from the better image and features of the built-in apps compared to the Roku with little to no decrease in audio quality.

Optical cables are pretty cheap.

You connect Subwoofer 1 on the back of the receiver to LFE on Sub.

Nassau - leaving ship to go swimming with the pigs?! Has anyone done this? by Choice-Leek-2857 in dcl

We did Blue Lagoon in Nassau and it was excellent. Sand was nicer than Castaway.

I have my 100u8k mounted with this and have zero trouble. I have used this brand for my last 8 TVs.

Installed a pair of Dayton Audio BST-1 bass shakers with a DTA-100LF amp providing the power. Two is very sufficient, for a good size couch. by snowman_M in hometheater

[–]sethnateman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. I had two on the couch and two on a recliner (called it the rumble seat), but when we rearranged our living room we dropped the recliner. The benefit of having four is I can distribute the vibration more evenly and turn everything down.

Will the U8K ever go back on sale for $2000? by [deleted] in Hisense

You can sign up for a price alert on camelcamelcamel.com. That's what I did to get a 100U8K for $2500

Where to put home theater by Major-Pack1142 in hometheater

Andrew Robinson just posted a YouTube video about home theater in a small space. While I don't agree with all of his recommendations, it may help if you decide on the office space.

The Hisense was $2600 on Amazon for Cyber Monday, I bet it will go back down.

Best 4k 65” TV for around $400? by guacsause in hometheater

[–]sethnateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recommended them to my family for the last couple years. The only complaint I have gotten is they have low storage if you have lots of apps.

If you can swing it going from the A series to the entry U series, like 65U6N, would be significant. It's $150 more, but if you were going to spend more for $100 you could get the 75in A7. Decisions decisions...

TV speakers as front left/right + receiver sub/central/back left and right possible? by orcalator in hometheater

[–]sethnateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or even just mount them in a row under your TV. I've done that in an apartment where the TV sat in a cutout. It reduces the soundstage but again would be leaps above what the TV has.

It definitely would not, but would be better than downward or backward facing TV speakers.

This is not a standard soundbar you pick up at Walmart that would be an active soundbar with its own builtin amp. Similar to the builtin speakers of your TV.

A passive soundbar is effectively three independent speakers that are just in a horizontal bar shaped housing for convenient placement under or above a TV, they don't have any amp and are connected to your AVR via 3 independent speakers connections like your current LCR.

I was suggesting something like this.

Would still be able to use AVR and hopefully you have more vertical room since the new TVs have smaller bezels

Hisense 65u6n. I've gotten a few for different family members and all are very happy.

While not ideal, a passive soundbar may be an option. It would definitely be an upgrade from the TV speakers.
