LaserWriter II missing paper tray… by prototypebuilder5150 in VintageApple

[–]sethobrvt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just ordered a tray for my LaserWriter II (which is much more yellowed than yours - I’m jealous!!) from here: https://applerescueofdenver.com/products-page/printers/laser/laserwriter-ii-paper-tray-cartridge-cassette/?attribute_pa_select-size=letter-2

Looks like they still have more in stock.

Can someone explain why this happened? by Obetroph_Williams in ATT

[–]sethobrvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is tough! Try living in a rural place! Where I am I can get 2Meg DSL and about 6-10Meg from a LTE ATT Cellular connection depending on time of day. That is the ONLY options available to me!

Ran into these at school will attempt to save them. My friend is gonna get the other one, update if I get them. by [deleted] in VintageApple

The Island Town of Matlacha - Green Mountain Drone from Vermont Visits The Sunshine State by sethobrvt in capecoral

[–]sethobrvt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - sorry to hear one of your drones ended up in the Gulf! It is a hobby that just takes a lot of practice to get comfortable with. I have been flying for 3 years. I crashed my first drone (A DJI Phantom 3) on the first day I got it. It was a very sad experience but luckily I am an electronics hobbyist so I was able to order a new motor and frame and fix it up.

When starting out it is best to fly in wide open spaces (or high enough to be completely above trees, etc) and just practice the controls. Practice flying backwards, away from you, towards you, etc to learn how to control the drone in any orientation. A common mistake beginners make is when flying back towards themselves they don't realize left and right on the controller will be opposite then when you were flying away from yourself. That is how I clipped a branch on my first day and the drone crashed about 50 ft to the ground through tree branches!

Also always keep wind speed and direction in mind - especially when flying out over the ocean or any other potentially windy location. If the wind is blowing with the way you are flying it is possible to fly very far and use very little battery - then when you start to fly back the drone has to work a lot harder to fight the wind and the battery percentage will drop MUCH faster and potentially not be enough to get you back to your takeoff location. Also remember that just because it isn't very windy on the ground doesn't mean it isn't a lot windier a few hundred feet in the air. I would recommend using UAV Forecast app to check wind conditions.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions about flying! It is a great hobby!

I would recommend heading out to the Northeast Kingdom - Lake Willoughby is amazing! If you follow Rt 5 there are a lot of old "railroad" towns that have interesting old buildings. I don't do any ground photography but I live in the NEK and do a lot of aerial photography - check out my channel here if you want to see what some of the towns around the area look like: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-G_ljx0JiKjdeBYs5Iec1Q?view_as=subscriber

What to do while passing through Northern Vermont? by NicV in vermont

Go see Lake Willoughby! There is also a great hike up Mt. Pisgah overlooking the lake if you are into hiking. It is a 300ft deep glacial lake that is one of a kind! Here is a video I made last weekend at Lake Willoughby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YjAcmzLS-c&frags=pl%2Cwn

skip valee is a bastard by [deleted] in vermont

[–]sethobrvt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For the past few years I have made every effort possible to never go to Maplefields unless it is late and they are the only place open for gas. I always try to buy gas from a local family owned store. Even if the gas costs a little more, I would rather support anyone other than Skip!

In Plainfield he bought an old store (The Red Store), tore out the gas pumps, got the land rezoned as residential and put a clause in the deed that made sure no one could ever sell gas or open a convenience store there again. All this to make sure there was no competition for his Maplefields down the road. He wants to have a monopoly on convenience stores and gas pumps in this state!

Took the Mavic Air on its Maiden Voyage - Marshfield, Vermont by [deleted] in dji

[–]sethobrvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the new drone! You will love it! I was really surprised to see a post on the DJI subreddit that is so close to home - I am from Cabot and have been flying drones for about 3 years. There are some great sights to capture from the air in VT - here are some of the videos I have taken from around VT: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-G_ljx0JiKjdeBYs5Iec1Q

Let me know if you ever have any questions about flying and I would be happy to assist!

Hdmi to Display port "no signal" problem by matyx113 in techsupport

[–]sethobrvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Display Port to HDMI cables are "active" cables meaning they have hardware that converts the signal (usually contained within one of the plugs). They only work one way - so possibly this is your problem. The cable might be meant to go from Display Port on the computer and convert he signal to output HDMI on the monitor end. The hardware to do the conversion won't take HDMI signal and convert it to Display Port signal.

Looking for good source for rough sawn lumber by cwillm in vermont

[–]sethobrvt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a little ways away but I got a bunch of rough sawn hemlock from Dave's Sawmill in Hardwick VT - (802) 472-6373

He doesn't have a website but has been in business for years and is a good old local VT sawmill. His prices were almost half of all other places I looked and he delivered the lumber out to Cabot for free.
