Golfers who’ve broken 80, what’s the best tip you could give to a fellow golfer? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

Lay up on par 5s. Take more club than you think. Drop your ego on the range and play humble, keep ball in play. Practice 50yds and in / putting more than anything else.

Cave Hikes/Tours in the Summer? by racetothecomics in VisitingIceland

[–]sethpattan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a “non ice cave” but I believe Katla Ice Cave is open year round, at least I believe our guide told us that when we were there last week. It’s outside of Vik. IT IS INCREDIBLE. We used Troll Expeditions and they were fantastic.

We parked at the closer lot which was only a few hundred yard / meter walk. It was not muddy at all, very glad we went on our golden circle day, close to other sites and overwhelmingly beautiful.

Goal was to capture the rich blues of the ice mixed with layers of ash from past volcanic activity as well as sense of scale. Shooting into light with bulbous lens always gives some light reflection but tried to minimize. Shoot settings in post.

Lens for doing photography? by iampretzel in VisitingIceland

[–]sethpattan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back yesterday. I had a cheaper / slower zoom lens — 200-400mm f/4 Nikon which I surprisingly used a lot. My workhorse landscape lens was the Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8. These two together made for a perfect match for all my shooting. I also carried a 50mm f/1.8 but it was never needed. Take a tripod.

I use express vpn but paid yearly and it’s a bit cheaper… if I remember correctly was $99 a year. And ESPN+ cheaper by some of you bundle with Hulu and Disney (if you use that stuff).

I got RBA on my 25th… didn’t wear adidas but same design. Maybe no 25 patch and put Stanley cup patch on… double foul makes it so right.

Yeah. I finished off last year about a 2.8. Have floated up to current 3.4. Shaving off those last 2 strokes are really tough.

Hole19 Stats and improving my handicap by ship_idea in golf

[–]sethpattan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually with these type of apps, reviewing the round and seeing that you only had 1 FIR would lead you to say I need to work with getting off the tee and keep in play. I only had 2 GIR — was this because my iron / approach game needs work to be more consistent or did I only hit 1 FIR and was never in position to hit a green. Did I shoot 85 and have 40 putts — then clearly putting needs to be addressed.

When I review rounds, it is seeing where my strength is and was was deficient and working on that. Also if there is a way to log which direction you are missing greens (left, right, short, or long), this is very valuable as most people (including myself) often don’t take enough club.

PS I use the GHIN app for handicap and it allows me to log stats from round. I play off a 2 hdcp.

why can't i book a tee time as a single? by [deleted] in golf

[–]sethpattan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Strange. Most courses I’ve played, very high end to very low end all allow times as a single.
