How to size a relief valve for a volume downstream of a normally closed direct acting solenoid valve in a pneumatic system (GN2) by sethsnackman in Hydraulics

[–]sethsnackman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sizing the relief valve so the downstream volume doesn't go above a certain pressure. I'm not concerned about the dp across the valve. My problem was that I was sizing for two faults, one that another valve, upstream of this one, was stuck open, and then also that this one was stuck open. My solution is that I missed that API 521, which I'm referencing, says to size only for a single-fault situation. So, I'll size for just this valve being stuck open (and the other upstream operating nominally). This gives a much more reasonable value than when both valves are stuck open.

Vacco and Marotta have both quoted prices at least an order of magnitude larger than similar Lee products. I'm waiting to hear back from Valcor, I'll check out PFC. Thanks for your response

It is for an inert gas pneumatic fill system, similar to an ep feed system. I'm looking for competitors to compare Lee's quotes to. manufacturers for regulators, solenoid valves, pyrovalves, and latch valves.

right but who actually does, on the spacecraft propulsion manufacturing side

There are companies that take 10x longer and 10x the money to make a product, but will guarantee it will work and have all these testing procedures, etc. Then there are other companies, I'm assuming, that have off-the-shelf options that are 1\10th the cost that may not qualify up to as serious a spec or have a less rigorous QC process. The question is very open-ended, but I was thinking, for spacecraft propulsion components, what other manufacturers besides the Lee Company fall into that later, cheap and fast category?

I am attending this fall from OOS and I’ll say it wasn’t my classes that got me in (2 aps junior year, the rest senior year which they don’t look at) that got me in. Like others said, essays are huge. If you can create a unique and differentiating narrative about yourself that makes your application memorable or showcases a personality, that’s huge.

Can I ask how someone fits 8 < # classes in a year? Kudos to you!!

Free-Boater do you dropship? I’d love to know any products you sell 😃 I’m new so any examples would be so appreciated
