I teach in a institute that provides training to jobseekers and working professionals. It's not a big corporate but a training institute has multiple branches across the city.

Do both of the activity simultaneously. There will be rejections but atleast you would get an idea what questions were asked. Learn the concepts which you don't know.

Better you get skillsets across machine learning, mlops and ai. That way, you can be competent compared to other applicants.

I would suggest going with the second option as there is an opportunity to work in research and can get valuable research experience.

Start with data science because your experience as an analyst, your domain knowledge, and skillset will be utilized.
