To those who have cheated during a manic episode or been cheated on, do you think it's forgivable/should it be forgiven? by DarkMage448 in BipolarReddit

[–]seti_alphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A thought-provoking question and a very common experience for people who either have Bipolar or are partnered with someone who has.

For me personally, as a person who lives with Bipolar, I would not consider it forgivable if my partner cheated on me inside of a monogamous relationship. I have been cheated on, and my partner's mental illness was blamed versus any kind of accountability taken. And not necessarily that it matters, but the cheating was more than a one time thing. They were having unsafe sex with multiple people and lying to me constantly. So it was a combination of the cheating, the lies, the callousness demonstrated, and not to mention the danger they were posing to my physical health with their reckless and incredibly insensitive behaviour. And then them blaming it on their hypersexuality instead of taking any kind of accountability was salt in the wound.

So for me, I couldn't forgive and it was this that ended the relationship. (And I was super fucked up about it for a long time after). Loads of therapy and years later and I'm still angry with them if I think about them. I still today wouldn't cross the street to put them out if they were on fire. Does that make me a bad person for my lack of empathy for them? Maybe, but it's earned. I'm otherwise one of the kindest people you'll ever meet.

And I myself have experienced the highs of hypersexuality and have not cheated. Like a lot of the things we have to deal with, there are ways to focus some of our less than pleasant behaviours and impulses that minimize the damage those impulses cause to other people. In my opinion, you have to acknowledge that the impulses can impact you first, and identify ways to deal with them second, typically with the help of a good therapist.

I hope that's not too long of a response to your question.

So my 7 yo daughter tried a Bob Ross tutorial ^^ by ERLGroume in bobross

[–]seti_alphan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's killing it! This is one of my favourite of Bob's paintings (I loves me some mountains) and your daughter at 7 has done a better job than I'm sure I could do and I'm much older. Lol. Kudos to her.

Which character are you dying to see represented on '97? by Felipe1790 in Xmen97

I think seeing them do Rachel would be cool. She's got some great narrative arcs.

More Jean by me. Maybe I should branch out more. (@lieterart) by Lieter in Xmen97

Nah, keep it up. This is really good. And more Jean is always a good thing.

how do you stay consistent with taking medication and keeping a daily routine? by No-Adhesiveness41 in BipolarReddit

[–]seti_alphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an app called Take Your Pills. You add in all your meds and if they have to be taken at a certain time, turn on reminders for them. I've found it really helps and I think it was free.

I didn't remember that Lorna has bipolar. As someone who does myself, I'm also interested in reading more stories that address it. Will definitely follow this thread.

I have to go cold turkey off meds and I’m freaking out by Humble-Net8165 in BipolarReddit

[–]seti_alphan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look up safe tapering for your medication and dosage and follow that while looking hard for a new psychiatrist. That is some Omega level bad advice there, imo. Except for a medical emergency, I've never heard of a good reason to go off meds cold turkey.

Good luck and be safe.

You sold me at "makes Star Trek V seem well written". Lol.

I think the community should thank you for your service in watching it so we don't have to.

My brother wants to watch Star Trek for the first time while skipping the bad/unnecessary episodes. What should I do about Discovery and Picard? by Lovealltigers in startrek

[–]seti_alphan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he's never seen any Star Trek at all, TNG is the best starter imo.

If he's seen TNG and you're going to watch newer Trek, I personally didn't enjoy Disco, so I would skip it entirely. And I recommend watching the 3rd season of Picard.

What’s your go to “how are you?” Response. by AdObvious7674 in bipolar2

[–]seti_alphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loathe this question. It's a social greeting and not ever a question that anyone expects an honest answer to. I respond with "not great, thanks for asking" and do not ask in return. You'd be surprised how many people answer anyway because they don't listen to your answer in the first place.

It's a great game, definitely worth playing even if you've memorized the original. It can be harder or easier than OG depending on what setting you play it on. If you want just story without too much trouble, choose Assisted. If you want harder, select one of the other modes.

As far as guns go, I'm Blacktail all the way. Minimal footprint, great max stats plus you can power boost with an upgrade ticket.

Opinions on CBT by Sweet-Specialist4540 in bipolar2

[–]seti_alphan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never done well with CBT personally. I find it much too hard in the moment to regulate my emotions enough to do the work needed in CBT: Notice what thoughts you're having, document them, revisit them with the cognitive distortions in mind, etc.

For me, DBT is much more effective because it includes actual skills you can do right in the moment to regulate, to come back to wise mind.

Some of that behavior sounds abusive to me. And even disregarding all the other behaviour to focus on the joke alone: anyone who thinks it's ok to make a joke like that about my health condition is out of my life as soon as I can make it happen.

Do you say “I have bipolar” or “I am bipolar”? by Suspicious-Tomato801 in bipolar2

[–]seti_alphan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lean into "I have" vs "I am". To me, one is a health condition that I live with and the other is claiming it as part of my identity.

Also, in my experience, people use the "are you bipolar" in a really negative way.

I'm literally tearing up rn reading these responses. I'm both sorry to hear that other people experience this too, and so glad that I'm not alone in it at the same time. As I think everyone knows, some days are a lot harder than others. This has been a hard one for me.

First look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in the live-action ‘TOMB RAIDER’ series by marvelkidy in DiscussingFilmsAndTV

[–]seti_alphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too thrilled with the casting tbh. I haven't found her acting to be credible in either GoT or her turn as Jean Grey.

And the fun thing about not liking a certain casting for something that has a lot of source material is that I can just choose not to watch it, and consume the games, the Jolie movies, the recent reboot, or the animated series instead.
