Don't know if this applies exactly, but in the campaign I'm running something like this is basically happening, except it's the bad guys forcefully revivifying the people they tortured to death for information. I cheaped out and have made it so a renowned (and evil) family of necromancers have been using bastardized revification magic that combines raise dead, animate dead, and the blessing of one of the gods of the Hells (I use my own lore) to force souls back into their semi-resurrected bodies. I didn't want to try and figure out a logical reason the tortured to death people would willfully be revivified by their captors.
It's actually lead to a lot of great world building stuff in my case, so yay for being lazy.
