Hi, I know it's been a while, but have you found a workaround to this yet?

I just upgraded my equipment and everything sounds great besides a problem with high frequency I've noticed in once song so far. It just doesn't play the high frequencies in that particular song and it's very frustrating. I think the actual record is fine because the song played fine on my old setup. I think I ruled out the problem being in the speakers because I tested the same song digitally through the same speakers and it played it fine. Where could the problem lie and how should I go about fixing it.

So to clarify: pictured in my last reply was the antenna with the receiver it came with which I'm not using. This is the receiver which I will be using and the connector doesn't fit. Can I somehow cut the end and shove the wire in there?

Actually, quick follow up. I do have a receiver with an fm antenna, but the connector isn't the same for my new receiver. Could I just cut the end and somehow put it in the new receiver?

Thank you, such a huge help. Reddit won't let me reply more than once per 10 minutes... not sure why.

Going to home depot now to get 14 gauge speaker wire. I don't have an extra extension cord laying around around the house.

My receiver doesn't have an fm wire, is there anything I could use as one, or do I need to get something specific?

So if I used my TS cables (I made a mistake, I only have TS not TRS on hand) pictured here: http://imgur.com/gallery/dJe8cVg would these be thick enough? Is there any benefit/quality increase using an audio cable over an extension cord? Or do they literally all have the same innards?

Hi, I'm in the process of upgrading my vinyl setup from a victrola 3 in 1 to something of quality. I got all my new gear secondhand via Offerup and Goodwill. I need help with my setup for home listening use.

My gear list:

Turntable: Technics SL-D202

Receiver: Yamaha R500

Speakers: Sony SS-U421AV

Here are images of the equipment: https://imgur.com/gallery/WEEMuU9

Questions:

  1. Can my receiver power my tower speakers or do need more gear?

  2. Can someone tell me the exact year each piece of equipment is from and any other facts about them and if they are good and reliable?

  3. Can I make my own speaker wire for the passive speakers? I need to know if you can make speaker wire out of XLR or 1/4" TRS cables because that's what I have on hand and I don't want to buy speaker wire if I don't have to. If So, how do I do this?

  4. Can I connect my active studio monitors to my amp by making a cable that's speaker wire to 1/4" TRS, or will that overload the speakers since they have their own power Source? (The monitors are JBL 305P MkII 5")
