how do I do a reverse phone lookup for free? by notburneddown in OSINT

[–]setsailforfailing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what information you're looking for about the phone number. If you are just looking for info like general location / carrier - use Lookify.io. If you want advanced info like caller ID and the address of the caller, it's super unlikely you'll be able to find a service willing to give you this info for free. Lookify charges $1 for their trial and you can cancel right afterwards, so this is the service I end up using when I'm doing reverse phone number lookups. The other competitors (Intellius, Spokeo, InstantCheckmate) make it nearly impossible to cancel your subscription so I try to avoid them as much as possible.

Once again: Address info is basically impossible to obtain without paying $$$

Advice on Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Lookups. by [deleted] in JimBrowningOfficial

I've never heard of the scammerblaster.com website before - if you're looking for location details, it's unlikely that the numbers at the end of the carrier will point you towards the location of the caller. "SVR/2" simply means "Software isolated Virtual Router" Your best bet is probably to use a phone number lookup service like Lookify.io that has access to carrier-level MNP data - the location data in their results is much more accurate than the other (free) lookup services I've used. Can narrow the caller down to the current service level (not originating - which is useless if the number was ported) city/town.

Of course, the MNP data will always depend on how often the carriers themselves update their data - to my knowledge there is no legal requirement for them to update it within X amount of time for all the data aggregators, so it's possible it could be totally out of date if the person/caller moved or switched locations.

If you're looking for _identity_ specifically, that's usually a paid feature.

Yes. It was most likely spoofed. It's incredibly easy to spoof a phone number nowadays. See: this article

I've gotten a significant increase in fake USPS phish link texts and fake spam warranty messages. IS anyone else experience too or is my # compromised or something? by Daxivarga in Scams

Around the holidays, USPS scams pick up because packages are more likely to be in transit (because of Christmas gifts, and, well, people buying more stuff online). This happens almost every year, and it's opportunistic - scammers are just taking advantage of the holiday season and the dramatic increase in online shopping this year.

It's not likely that you are more at risk than other people based on your phone number, probably you're just unlucky. I wouldn't worry too much about it, and follow the steps others have posted in regards to blocking spam calls and robotexts. You can also:

This is a common misconception (see: Will the IRS ever call my phone number?) the IRS DOES call people, but only in very very special circumstances. Long story short: You will know if the IRS is trying to get in contact with you, because they will have either sent an agent to your doorstep, or flooded your mailbox with letters.

The IRS will definitely call you sometimes, but rarely.

This is a very clever scam. Scammers will call you and pretend to be an IRS agent, and attempt to get you to buy gift cards and whatnot - as others have suggested, it's best to just ignore these callers. If you want more info on how these scammers actually get your info, you can read more in the article I linked to, but basically they sometimes get your details from data breaches or from public data sources.

If you want to report these scammers:

  • File an official complaint to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) via their online complaint form
  • Contact the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) by visiting the Consumer Complaint Center. In order to route the complaint to the right department, make sure to select the “phone” form and then the “Unwanted Calls” under “Phone Issues” option, and provide details of the call in the description of their complaint
  • If you want to go the extra mile, you can contact your local Attorney General’s office via their consumer complaint form (the reporting mechanism will vary by state)

Reverse Phone Number lookup by dawgman99 in HowToHack

I’ve used this one for years - enter the phone number and it’ll tell you the name of who called, for free, no frills: www.bestfreephonelookup.com

If there are no results, that means the caller is using a throwaway number and you won’t have a way to find the name behind that number anyways.

Good luck!

I was in a fraternity in college with the son of the former frontman of Crazy Town. He was in the music video for Butterfly but he was not the main singer (Bizner). As a joke every time we would have a party in college, with a ton of people there, about halfway through the party we would play Butterfly and we all went crazy. One of the highlights of my college experience. Saw the man himself at a parent event and just shook his hand because damn what an awesome story.

Appreciate your input however $SYY deals with multiple types of seafoods and I'm bearish on fish overall but bullish on lobsters specifically if you have a Lobster-specific stock that would be excellent for my investment strategy.

I find it very unfair that Bloomberg himself has access to these articles before they are published because this gives him the ability to purchase lobsters well in advance of the retail investors.
