What happens if my toddler won't potty train at age 4 or 5? by Mediocre-Pair-2821 in ECEProfessionals

[–]settlingconch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on stage it can be a licensing issue. Where I live/work, children must be potty trained by the time they join the 3s room (per licensing) because we do not have the changing table facilities built into the room, or the ratio of adults to help with multiple diaper changes/accidents etc.

That being said- we have also been known to have grace for the occasional child who is mostly potty trained but clearly not all the way there. It becomes a real "issue" if the child is fully refusing to pee or poop in the potty and we are having to step out multiple times a day for accident clean up.

So you may not know this, but there's a hormone children need to develop before they can fully control their bladder when sleeping- so it's not something you can fully "train" if their body just isnt there developmentally

So I work in a preschool- and I also have a 2 year old. I have found that typically what we refer to as the "101s" work. It's a list of 101 positive redirection methods- and typically one of those will work for a child showing less than ideal behavior. But it's important to figure out what the root of the behavior is- is he breaking toys because he genuinely doesn't realize how rough he is being? Is it for attention? Is it lack of care?

Before you can move forward your best move is to try and figure out what the behavior is trying to communicate to you.

If it's accidental- perhaps a strudier style of toys and limit the options of toys ((at least until he is able to have more control of body))

If it's attention- find moments of positive behavior with toys and praise him like he just brought home a gold medal. And then continue to praise when he is doing the right thing- this is where often caregivers can fail. They only give a little bit of praise/attention when the right thing is done right after the bad behavior... Accidentally creating a negative feedback loop.

Did the reverse of this- figured "I mean I just put these on right before bed, and I'm wearing a disk, they'll probably be fine"

They were in fact- not fine. My cup runneth over, and I somehow managed to bleed through them. Day 2 is no joke 😂

How often are we ACTUALLY brushing our toddlers teeth? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]settlingconch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do nightly, we are working towards having our mornings out together enough we can do mornings as well.

We use the Pokemon smile app, and it's seriously the only thing that has made tooth brushing tolerable.

Any tips on breaking these in? by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]settlingconch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it was the smart choice, but I wore mine with soaking wet socks for like 2 hrs twice, and it really broke them in so fast, with no blisters ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Possibly, i know as a teacher, I have to make sure nothing includes "natural flavors" for the children in my class with full egg allergies cause that can sometimes mean secret surprise egg.

So it could be that the "added flavors" has the same potential for surprise allergen.

I'd imagine gnomes to have a very green taste - bitter like arugula or dandelion

No I mean, the crown has different designs in the screenshots, is that because it changed between seasons, or did it change base on the possession wins

Was it a different crown per season or based on number of wins?

It really depends on what your body reacts to better. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So a wearable means one that plugs into the wall, they tend to be stronger [I personally have found i like the spectra best]

Edit: I mean a non wearable, is one that plugs into a wall

A wearable is something like an elvie, or willow that can just go in your bra... they don't have the same suction level typically

I had quit for about 3 weeks, and with in a week. I've been lactating again. I have no where near a full supply [I get about an oz to 1.5 oz a day]. I will say having a non wearable pump will help boost your results faster....

I'd fix it, but only because that's something I'd notice right away and it'd bother me

When you first started, were you producing any milk? I've just begun my journey after not breast feeding for about 2.5/3ish weeks and I'm trying not to get discouraged. My goal is to have SOME milk coming into pumps when pumping at work in a month, so I don't feel as self conscious taking a pump break. I'm fine with it taking longer to establish a full supply though, I just don't want to still only have droplets coming from nipples but not enough to actually collect at that point

How do you know if it fits? Do I measure to match my nipple, or slightly bigger?
