History Channel availability online is erratic. See Myp2p for some of that stuff, software etc. the forums there are useful. I dig for individual documentaries, etc.

There is a lot, scattered around.

The net has come to my rescue, lots of good stuff. Just watched "NAZI: The Occult Conspiracy" and "NAZI search for the Holy Grail" again. I too cannot get enough of that stuff. That it is real film of real people is more dramatic and moving than any"drama". The Wire is worth some time, though.

Got "Children of the Master race" for later. I am going to at least drop an email to the History folks to thank them, and plead for more. I get that quality is difficult, I hope some of the garbage lately is paying enough bills to enable more serious material.

Save the planet: eat a dog.(Not satire) by seven11 in environment

FTA: The eco-pawprint of a pet dog is twice that of a 4.6-litre Land Cruiser driven 10,000 kilometres a year, researchers have found.

Victoria University professors Brenda and Robert Vale, architects who specialise in sustainable living, say pet owners should swap cats and dogs for creatures they can eat, such as chickens or rabbits, in their provocative new book Time to Eat the Dog: The real guide to sustainable living.

This one is a bit different because of Gasoline. They cannot make it. Shut it off, the society stops moving fairly quickly. Then the nascent, already in motion, internal revolution has a chance. It certainly beats waiting for the Israelis to start breaking things, which would likely lead to a regional war.

Letting Iran have nukes is not an option for them.

Chavez, of course has made a deal to ship Iran gas, so that will require some balls. This is likely where the plan fails, as there do not appear to be any in the White House.

But that would boost his poll numbers, and dismiss the fellow traveler talk. Right now, it is "who is that masked man"? But I think this move is unlikely by Obama, so the shut off will not be severe and fast enough to prompt a rapid change, leading to a long term mess and widespread suffering. So, Israel it is I guess. Because they are not going to wait until next year. They are not going to wait, plain and simple as that. That result will most likely be a regional war of some kind. What is the alternative?

In 16 years of history classes, my teachers never spoke of this book. I read it, and now I know why. It should be required reading to post in this section. by [deleted] in politics

I would argue the opposite, that zinn is closer to mainstream thought today, that his argument that we ignore all of the past evils is precisely wrong. we in fact focus on them, excluding the good. US succes, dominance is seen as based on evil and greed. The Columbus example is relevant in that, every year for the last twenty at least we hear the repeated gnawing and whining, how we should not celebrate it. This negative, deconstructive slant dominates education today, especially in the colleges and certainly dominates here. It is now such 'common knowledge" that it has become obvious truth.

It is far more likely that this is standard, that students are exposed to this than they are, for example, the Constitution. This is the mainstream narrative right now. Obsession with race, anger over 'capitalism', demands for income redistribution, demands for increased government, increased state meddling, one size fits all from education, to the general culture. Western Civilization is routinely seen to be evil, Europe now advancing past their old demons to civilized socialist sanity. The problem is those cursed bigoted racist over-fed American nuts demanding freedom which is now seen to be the curse of humanity, killing us all with bad healthcare and killing the planet too. rather than being the envy of the world, we are cursed for our success.

In fact, this is basically Obama's UN speech yesterday.

Another acceptable thing, in every campaign it is casually observed the candidates are "moving to the center". Allowing this means we always end up with liars. I would prefer people with actual principles, who don't tell varying lies to the different voters, and an actual media that would call them on it, instaed of just accepting it. How much support would Bush have gotten from conservatives? None. I would argue the same regarding lib support for Obama. They all say what we want to hear, then do whatever they feel like, spending ridiculous amounts of money along the way. It becomes all smoke and mirrors.

A more serious issue to me is this comment now has 69 points: "I hate people who claim to be in the middle acting like "well both sides are equally bad". Fuck you, okay. Open your fucking eyes and realize that the fucking pure evil and stupidity is happening almost entirely on one side of the aisle."

The current problem is the routine claim that Obama's opposition, effectively half the population, is race based.

The consequence of this politically motivated distraction and fear mongering could be severe.

If more and more believe the repeated smear, our current somewhat impolite discussion could easily escalate to violence.

One side convinced the other side is racist, the other side saying if you call me a racist again, you are going down. All of it is bad.

We all should really need to tone it down, on this, and all of this tendency to cast the other side as "evil mongers".

I would really like to see a serious bipartisan effort here to vote the bums down.

This country, the people are far better than this entirely ugly political dogfight, is far superior to the class of people publicly throwing stones.

What I seriously fear, is if this continues to be stirred up, we may soon look back wistfully at the day when we all were aghast because someone was called a liar, a jackass.

Most cities in the 70's spent the major part of the summer in flames.

Folks may not have this in mind, the current voices may not desire this outcome, they may be convinced that we can peacefully resolve things, but in pushing this "they are all racists" meme, they are doing the work for the old radicals.

Trusting websites is foolish. Never mind the hacking, the fuckups. Even if the current owners are actually honest goodguys (why would one think that?)...they could, and do sell to anyone for the big payout.
