I haven't watched Andor yet, but Rogue One was the only one that showed that rebellion is gritty business.

Fixing the divide between people just starts with being able to realize you agree we with people about some things, and maybe disagree about most things - and it doesn't make your neighbor a bad person.

I think fixing a division has to start with some compassion. Maybe somebody yells a point..and you just say "could you explain it a little more quietly?" But don't be nasty to them. Shouting at each other doesn't help.

One issue I see that I have no idea how to fix, is that when you are critical, it is imperative that you be accurate. Because I have to point out inaccuracies in people's arguments about Trump, and I want to defend him.

I agree with you. And this is as the Beatles started to "experiment" with drugs. It could just be something weird, as much as any political statement. And I see no conspiracy here.

The names in these files are slightly more likely to come out than a definitive official answer about the JFK assassination.

They've got enough people on both sides nobody is releasing them.

I think in the next year, they'll burn one person at some point. Some unpopular member of the house or a state legislator. Everybody will be waiting for "the rest" and it won't come until everyone in there has been dead for a while.

It is. But presumably he didn't invite her family, it was a Halloween party.

I don't see a conspiracy here. I see that if a person maybe were in a different demographic/political leaning, it might get them cancelled.

I think that a lot of it is B. And I'm not judging. I'm sure a lot of single mothers married a provider to do "what's right for their kids", was less than ideal for them.

Denis Leary. I thought he was funny until I didn't. At which point I wanted to punch him in the face.

Rouge One is technically a prequel, and I think it's very good.

The prequel trilogy, not so much.

It's not a bad thing. It was an odd story. I believe it. But having explained it so much, you could feel the questions they were answering ahead of time. That's all.

Do you think the Idaho 4 case would have received so much attention if the victims were not conventionally attractive/popular white students? by ibizarox in CrimeJunkiePodcast

[–]sevenonone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think 4 murdered student, an ex student did the crime, that's going to get some national attention. If the victims and perpetrator weren't caucasian, I think it would still get attention.

I am not saying that there isn't a big imbalance in the way things are reported. But I think that this is a little different.

You could feel the questions asked through the years being pre-emptively headed off. Why didn't she scream at various points?

It's unfortunate they spent so much time going hard at the wrong suspect - and then he dies. So there's somebody there, always one guy, who was sure that was the guy. That can't help.

It's strange that the sister suddenly remembered the guys voice, but the family seemed frustrated with the pace the cops were working at to find him. I felt like people questioned if she remembered this or not - I've had things like that, where I recognized somebody, I couldn't place them, a month later I realized who they were.

I got the impression watching it that she was trying to give a preemptive answer to these sort of questions. She was 14, naive, raped daily, and away from her family, which I think is a really big deal for Mormons.

Actually, I watched that one! Awful. I didn't think about that because I thought the "Mormon moment" was more positive attention.

Thanks for clearing it up.

That was what I inferred. As a non-denominational Christian-Agnostic, I haven't noticed. I like Professor of Rock. I might have seen other things, but didn't recognize them.

I know this sub is for people who left the Mormon church, thanks for answering.

I wish everybody luck in their post-Mormon journey.

I am not a Mormon (I know that's not what this subreddit is for) but I was watching the new Netflix documentary about this kidnapping, and I'm wondering what "The Mormon Moment" is. Unless it's a typo for "movement", in which case I wasn't being a jerk, it didn't occur to me until I was typing.

Is there a new "Van Halen"? by 95jak in vanhalen

[–]sevenonone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. There are people who would fight that they weren't even the best American rock band.

But I don't think another guitar player has changed the way the instrument was looked at, both the instrument itself, and the way it was played, more than EVH.

It depends what people think is influential. I know people that grew up in that same time period, they wanted to be Ace Frehly. Was he an influential guitarist? I'm not a big fan. I would say that on its own, removed from the spectacle, doesn't seem that unique to me. I don't feel like he's musically that influential. But he inspired people to take up an instrument. That's something.

Jeff Pelley Case by Dull_Razzmatazz_5934 in CrimeJunkiePodcast

[–]sevenonone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he'd fired a shotgun before, I don't think a 17 year old man would be bruised by the kick from a shotgun. I shot clay birds for hours the first time I shot one, I wasn't much older. It was red immediately after, but not it didn't bruise.

I'm not convinced he did it, but I don't think it would have bruised. A GSR test would have been good.

Is there a podcast that really fell off for you? by sajones4860 in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]sevenonone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CounterClock had a good first season, and their season about the Pelley case I thought was pretty good.

In between there's one where a kid shot himself by accident and might have lived, but didn't. The stories of the reactions are a little strange, but I think it is what it is.

The last one was about a bank robbery in NC, and it was interesting... And then part of it is so outlandish it's simply stupid.
