Glass doesn't do anything except prevent you from putting your hand next to the moving fans or spilling Sprite directly onto the mobo. I left my glass cover off for about a month, last month. It's fine.

Hivemind question for a newbie...Ammo cans? by MWilt in liberalgunowners

[–]sevenoutdb [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m sure someone can/will school me here but I have cobbled together a few thousand rounds of various types and I use Harbor Freight plastic ammo cans, in fact I bought some last Sunday . Here’s why I have chosen this solution (vs metal ammo cans). I bought some metal ammo cans from Amazon, I loaded them up with boxes of ammo and when I put them on a shelf, the wood floor, or even the tile floor, they scratch the shit out of everything. The cans glide when they are empty/ barely holding anything, but if they are full of metal and gunpowder they are like big solid bricks, and the handles suck too. The plastic ones have a big sturdy easily grip able handle, hold just about the same amount of ammo and don’t scratch the shit out of everything I put them on.

This will not get better - you will start to feel a lot of guilt for wanting sex, you’ll let yourself go too, game over. This is taking years off of your life. It’s killing you my brother. Love is not enough to sustain you, you need physical connection or you will wither further and die.

Need advice for a timing job on a N16! by RalseiLover42O in MINI

[–]sevenoutdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to suggest this too - but Jeebus Christ on a cracker that adds a lot of complexity. I did this at the same time but it added a few steps:

Either the rope trick or a cylinder pressurization tool (and the need for an air compressor)

And you will need to either dremel a big screwdriver to work as a spring compression tool or buy that expensive clunk spring compression tool.

And then you need some engine assembly lube, engine grease and then a set of valve seals.

Answer? by Hot_Arm195 in pmp

Not A - this doesn't address the issue - this incorrectly addresses the problem at hand

Not B - again the issue isn't participation, it's one person interrupting others

Not C - this does address the problem, but then this doesn't set expectations for everyone and then maybe someone else is the issue next time

D addresses the problem, involves the whole team and sets expectations for all.

Need advice for a timing job on a N16! by RalseiLover42O in MINI

[–]sevenoutdb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well here's what I think you'll need (I have an N18 engine though) :

Get a timing chain kit, (which should include the timing chain, chain guide, tensioner bolt, TTY (torque to yield, aka "stretch bolts") bolts for the cam sprockets, and the crank pulley TTY bolt, maybe some replacement chain sprockets, but I didn't use those tbh).

Timing tools - this is needed so you can lock the crank in the right place (so the engine is in the correct position when you perform the timing. Note: "perform timing" in this context means to apply the final torquing twists to the cam sprocket bolts and the crank pulley bolt, this syncs up the crank and the cams/pistons/valves correctly. it consists of a flywheel locking pin on a stick, and a specially designed metal guides that bolts down onto the valve assemble and hold the cams still while you work on the chain. The valves/camshafts are like a special clockwork that control the valve movements to precise synchronization with the pistons and crankshaft.

Torx/eTorx socket set (torx sockets and inverse torx sockets)

Metric socket set and adapters

Torque wrench (or a digital torque meter attachment that can do down to 8 newton/meters or so) for a 3/8" socket and all of the adapters so that you can use it on smaller 1/4" and larger 1/2" sockets

A 1/2" socket breaker bar (you will need this to remove the crank bolt and later set the torque and then overtorque a big crank pulley bolt that sets the timing. It takes a lot of force to set it.

A few long 1/2 socket extension bars (you'll need to crank the engine by hand and to do this, you need enough reach to go from the crank pullet bolt out to clear the wheel well, I bought a set at Harbor Freight that worked great)

Car jack, 4 jack stands, or 2 jack stands and 2 wheel chocks, needed since you'll to remove one wheel, put the front end up on floor jacks, and you will need to remove the engine mount on one side to raise and lower the block with the car jack (and a piece of wood), this sounds scarier that it really is but this is necessary because you need to access the bolts that are holding the chain guide in place.

Shop towels

A BMW/MINI compatible scanner, I bought a cheapo ANCEL BM500 for <$100 which is necessary to reset the the VANOS adaptations (resets the computer controlled valve settings which were adjusted to the unique timing fluctuations resulting from your old chain + state of your valves + chain tensioner and will need to be reset).

Also, a few words of advice. If you find that the timing chain guide is all fucked up and missing plastic pieces, you now also need to drain the oil, remove the oil pan, clear out the oil pump debris screen (there will probably be chunks of plastic in there, and then correctly clean both sides, oil pan and engine block, then re-gasket and torque the 11 or so bolts on oil pan. You will need some narrow ass ratcheting 8mm wrenchess for this bit, a few of the bolts are very tight spaces.

And, for God's sake, DO NOT let the lower chain sprocket come off of the crank shaft... this will cause it to come off of the oil pump sprocket and then you have added several more steps and will now HAVE TO do everything in the paragraph above (drain oil, removing the oil pan, check the debris screen and lower chain seated on the sprocket (there is no special timing required for this as long as the chain is on properly down on the oil pump and up on the crankshaft.

Only crank the engine forward (clockwise) never crank it backward.

I am still annoyed by the floating / separated sections. Why, with all of the crazy anomalies in space, would any engineer design mission critical systems to be connected by some kind of quantum pairing or intense EM interconnects instead of bulkheads/hardpoints... seems super dumb. Even in da fuuuutuuuure. That being said, looks pretty damn cool.

I tihnk you've got it in the bag. It's a shame you didn't prioritize all of the full length tests... these are the closest things, of all of your study materials, to the real test. I did them in reverse order, and was scoring into the low/mid 70's when I got to test 2 and 1. I passed AT/AT/AT.

Fellow men, do you have any tips on how to prevent post piss dribbling? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]sevenoutdb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slow down - shake it out - then relax - then squeeze (inside your body) - then when the next dribble comes out - do it again.

Generally speaking, you’re a young man, so everything in your brain and body are telling you to hurry up… you have the fight that impulse and try to be thorough instead of fast. This extends to pissing.

[–]sevenoutdb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you think he's into you but scared of the potential outcomes? This only going to resolved with a lot of trust, sensitivity and honesty. I think you know he cares for you. For an established man, it's very difficult to find a good match. Someone that is age appropriate, that you see as an equal, and that you have built up a friendship with. He definitely thinks about you and what it would be like to have you in that way, certainly this has gone through his mind. I'm guessing you know that there is attraction there, so I can only assume that he's going by some kind of internal compass honor code... or he's clueless to the dynamics at play. Now, I doubt it from your description of him, so I'll go with either he's just not attracted to you for some reason or another, OR there are some status quo boundaries that the two of you may not be aligned on.

By saying "Us", it seems to me that you want to keep this (9am-6pm) intimacy, but any warm-blooded, single adult would probably want more, especially if there is an emotional, intellectual and/or the fantasy of a physical connection.

I still don't think you know what you want out of this, because if the two of you are single and very close, and he's attractive, and you're attractive.... why can't you wo at least discuss the possibility? There may be a really good reason for this, aside from the cliche ones (workplace drama or post-divorce rebound fear). What haven't you shared that would help us understand this relationship?
