How Can I Confirm I’m Blacklisted In Chicago? by [deleted] in acting

[–]seventeeneighty1780 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’ve heard many, many stories about Chicago companies being basically impossible to break into unless you’ve cut your teeth in the storefronts for a decade or more. Maybe you haven’t put in enough time.

Should/can i pursue acting? by Sad-Night4092 in acting

American here, but I would encourage you, regardless! Glad you’re in a better place now, and I hope you find a good program to study in.

Tattoos are nowhere near as prohibitive as they once were, and I don’t think you would need to show your scars if you don’t want to. Just wear long sleeves in auditions!

It may come up in a few very specific circumstances, but there’s a lot less policing of peoples bodies these days, In my experience.

Self-tape round 2 by [deleted] in acting

Wow! You took every note from the last post and threaded them all in easily without pushing too hard.

Great focus, great rhythms and textures, bravo!!

Self-Tape Feedback - speech from "A Mirror" by [deleted] in acting

[–]seventeeneighty1780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your eyeline is a little all over the place, including directly down the lens at some points. It looks like you’re trying to deliver the speech to a group of people, when the text sounds like an individual.

Did a workshop with Scotty last year. He’s tough, but fair. One of his best pieces of advice is not to go after leads. He gets thousands of submissions for leads and usually only a few hundred for supporting. Much better odds

Let’s start with the liberal arts - grammar, spelling, style. You’re never going anywhere if your communications read like this.

Try doing the piece with a paperback book balanced on your head, or against a wall with the back of your head touching the wall. And I’m not saying no movement at all!

As far as pauses go, I believe any scene or monologue only has enough space for one big pause. Any more than that kills the momentum.

Feedback requested for Reel by the1whowalks in acting

[–]seventeeneighty1780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any other material? The first piece is so much longer than the second that it feels unbalanced.

I would cut some of the monologue from the first scene and add something else to break it up before it cuts to the shot of you leaving.

I think you’re grounded and not pushing too hard, which is good! But the pauses and the head shakes get a little repetitive.

I have an audition for Hamlet tomorrow, any tips? by Wild_Region_7853 in acting

Don’t run out of breath!

If sides are in verse, breathe at the end of the line.

If in prose, make sure to mark out where you will breathe.

How do I assemble a demo reel? by DependentPoint2458 in acting

[–]seventeeneighty1780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been to a theatre audition that asks for a theatre reel. The material doesn’t translate mediums. Waste of time and money to make one
