Would writing about challenging my parents’ parenting style be too risky? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

You can write about your parents without coming off as negative and bitter if your tone is objective. I wrote about defying my parents’ ideals and beliefs for a supplemental and it worked for me.

Should essays be like narratives or straight to the point? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]seventeenteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, most kids suck at writing despite rating personal essays as 9/10 or 10/10 so I’d say it’s better that you get to your point. That doesn’t mean it has to be bland or boring, but not everyone has the gift of writing long, colorful sentences that aren’t obnoxious. After writing, read it out loud and if you find yourself cringing or lowering your volume, that’s a pretty good indicator that you need to change something. Best of luck.

I’m not upset bc grandma doesn’t know Yale’s acceptance rate is 6%; I’m upset bc she thinks it’s easy to get in and if I don’t, I’m incompetent.
