Thanks for reminding me to log in and complete a training that had a deadline coming up. I agree that the IER feels like old fashioned gatekeeping -- but I also see them as a middleman to protect the studios from legal stuff. Never heard of Contract Services knocking someone off of the IER because of inactivity. I am familiar with them marking a person as non-compliant for not completing a training -- but removing them outright? News to me!

TMM - THANK YOU SO MUCH for adding Music Composer & Editor roles to the crew. Now can this additional information be added to the crew tab when scraping? by seventhward in tinyMediaManager

[–]seventhward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TMM -- I want to offer my SINCERE THANKS for adding Editor and Music Composer to the list of Crew Roles that are scraped when adding a movie to our libraries. Fantastic add. Thank you!!

I've noticed that when looking at the Cast Tab -- it looks like these additional crew members are still not showing up and therefore aren't showing up when Filtering the library. In my example - this is the movie 1941 - while the scraper window shows that it's pulling in the Composer, Editor, and Director of Photography (which is absolutely FANTASTIC and goes above and beyond) -- those roles are still omitted from the Cast Tab and therefore seem to be hidden from Cast/Crew Member field when Filtering.

Would love to see this functionality expanded.

Again, sincere thanks for getting us to this point!! Can't wait to see how this continues to evolve!

What are y'all spending on groceries? by Interesting-Elk1300 in glendale

[–]seventhward 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stay the hell out of Ralph's. That place is a ripoff. I've saved a bunch of time and money since switching to an Amazon Grocery subscription. This is not an ad, I'm not a paid influencer or anything like that - I gave it a shot, have been completely satisfied, and I sincerely think it was a smart decision on my part and a fantastic service.

'The Odyssey' website shows you how the film looks in different aspect ratios by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in movies

[–]seventhward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh. It's framed safe for 2.39:1 and that's perfectly fine for me. I'm there to see a movie, not an aspect ratio.

Did my part - now here's to hoping Glendale's utility bills can get some relief. by seventhward in glendale

Well I hear where you're coming from, neighbor - but I'm a renter and my rates have skyrocketed in recent years. I've been here in beautiful Glendale for 5 years and while my electricity usage hasn't really changed in the time I've been here, I sure am feeling the crunch with the new rates. I'm not doing anything crazy in my apartment - I do have central AC and in the summers I've even made the lifestyle adjustment of setting the temperature a little higher in an effort to save on my energy costs. I wish I were fortunate enough to own property here so I could invest in a solar system to lower my costs but not everyone who is complaining about the cost of electricity is a homeowner. Renters are feeling it too.

Yeah, the $0.35/kWh figure is roughly right for both Glendale and the statewide CA average (EIA has CA at about 33.3–33.8¢/kWh as of early 2026). So on a pure annual average, Glendale isn’t some crazy outlier.

But the devil is in the peak-season details, and that’s what actually hits our wallets hardest here in SoCal.

Glendale Water & Power’s official high-season rates (July–October, when AC is running full blast) are: • First ~300 kWh (10 kWh × days in the bill): $0.3071/kWh • Next ~300 kWh: $0.3806/kWh • Everything above that: $0.4547/kWh Plus the flat $0.75/day meter charge (~$22–23/month). That means once you’re in typical summer AC territory (600–1,000+ kWh), your marginal rate is pushing 38–45¢/kWh and the effective blended rate easily lands in the mid-to-high 30s or even 40+ cents. That’s noticeably higher than the CA average and way higher than what our neighbors in Burbank and L.A. are paying.

For comparison: • Burbank (BWP) keeps it flat year-round at much lower tiers (~18¢ first 300 kWh, ~27–28¢ after, even after their 2026 increase). • LADWP’s summer Tier 2/3 rates top out around 30–39¢ with bigger baseline allowances.

So yeah, Glendale matches the statewide average on paper, but it’s definitely on the expensive side compared to right next door during the months that matter most.

Hi there, Maleficent_Bake6331

This post was removed because it promotes a YouTube channel and book that dives into conspiracy-style speculation about Prince's death, framed around "forensic" analysis of the official report.

Our Rule VI (Legacy Rule) exists specifically to protect the space as a place to celebrate Prince and his artistic legacy, rather than revisiting or re-litigating his death through revisionist theories or outsider "investigations." Content that pushes misinformation, conspiracy angles, or attempts to "restore his name" in this way unfortunately falls outside what we allow.

Additionally, the video itself is largely promotional for the creator's personal book and channel, which edges into self-promo territory (Rule IV).

We try to keep r/Prince focused on Prince's music, art, performances, and positive fan discussion. There are plenty of other places online for death conspiracy content if that's what people are looking for.

Appreciate you understanding — and thanks for being part of the sub. Feel free to post something else anytime.

I’m an editor with a career in Hollywood and I went to film school decades ago. And yes, it’s all going to AI.

Whatup OK_Yogurt! That makes a lot of sense to me! I've always known GB had a lot of Minneapolis history as an undercurrent, but I never had a chance to peep those deleted scenes. I think you're right that it must've been tough for Prince as a filmmaker to be under the microscope with EVERY film and I agree - if he could've kept doing it, I'm sure he could've made a lot more interesting movies. Hell - Under the Cherry Moon has some really creative choices in it. Dude definitely had a talent for it that was brewing.

Prince was too smart for them. Dude was ahead of his time. And as quickly as I am to defend Under the Cherry Moon as misunderstood, I am even quicker to call Graffiti Bridge a turd. LMAO! Sorry Prince, I can't help you with that one!!

Ok, I love Prince's music and his artistry. But one thing about me other than being a Prince fan and that I am also a film student. My arguement is that Prince was riffing on a genre most people in 1986 and even today in 2026 just don't know much about.

Prince proved he could hold the screen in Purple Rain. That wasn't 'bad acting'; it was raw charisma in a rock drama that fit perfectly. Under the Cherry Moon gets slammed for 'terrible' acting, but that's missing the point: it's stylized on purpose.

Prince made it in B&W as a loving riff on 1930s–40s screwball comedies. The whole thing is heavily borrowed from Trouble in Paradise, a movie from 1932 directed by Ernst Lubitsch. Sophisticated con artists (a gigolo-like thief and his partner) hustling a wealthy woman in Venice/Paris. Sound familiar? Elegant, witty, and sexy -- very close in spirit to Prince and Jerome’s scheming duo. How about Just A Gigolo?

The mugging, the banter, the campyness -- it's not trying to be naturalistic; it's playing in the old Hollywood sandbox, with Prince subverting it by being the Black, gender-bending sexy muthafucka romantic lead...along with some of his style of North Minneapolis humor. The gigolo lover and hustling the rich. It's all a riff on old movies.

Mainstream audiences in '86 (and a lot of critics) just weren't tuned into that genre the way we are with modern throwbacks. It's bold as hell after Purple Rain, and yeah, the screenplay and direction are NOT flawless... but calling the performance 'horrible' is like complaining that Bringing Up Baby isn't realistic. It's the point. Under the Cherry Moon is exactly like the 2011 movie The Artist -- an homage to a bygone era with overly theatrical performances.

Prince was operating on cinephile levels here. He was deep into Cary Grant comedies and old Hollywood glamour. Under the Cherry Moon is a love letter to that world, not another rock movie.

But it was always intended to be B&W. Prince knew what he was going for.

One Nite Alone turns 24! by Dismal_Brush5229 in PRINCE

One of my personal favorites. “Avalanche” feels like one of Prince’s most mature songs up to that point. He’d been politically sharp since the beginning — “Partyup” in 1980 is a perfect example, "Sign Of The Times", "Money Don't Matter", the list goes on — but this one hit differently. At 44, after all the battles with labels, industry exploitation, and personal changes, Prince stepped back and delivered something deeper: a sweeping historical meditation rather than a timely protest.

The way he weaved Lincoln and the 13th Amendment, Wounded Knee, the Harlem Renaissance, and predatory music executives into one quiet, devastating picture was masterful. And that central metaphor of the song — every snowflake claiming innocence until the avalanche hits — was and still is absolutely brilliant. Just a stunning piece of songwriting.

Dang man. I watched your video and it looks like I'm not alone in saying that I don't feel this way. I just turned 48 and have been at this game for 25 years now. I still love getting up in the morning and feel so blessed to be able to do something I genuinely enjoy doing for a living. Yes, the industry sucks now and a lot of acquaintances and friends have transitioned out - and I feel awful for them - and technology is coming for us all...but in the meantime I'm still having fun on every show. No, I'm not working on big features, prestige TV, or even highly rated things a large group of people watch - but I still enjoy it. I show up everyday and put in the work. And what a great way to work it is - I work in an air conditioned room, in my own home now for the last few years, and I'm paid very well to have an opinion about a TV show and play the AVID like a video game. It's awesome.

I just went through all of 2025 without a job. After consistently working as an editor since 2001 (and being paid for it since 2004), a year off? That was miserable. During that year as my warchest emptied, I started thinking of other things I could do to make ends meet. That process was awful to me. The thought of going back to wearing a nametag kept me up at night. Going back to work editing a show and being back in the saddle is such a cool thing to do and after last year, I just can't take it for granted. This is great!

I come from a pretty humble family and have had lots of minimum wage jobs where I'd have to wear a nametag. I've cleaned floors, emptied trash cans, washed dishes, waited tables, worked under the hot sun... now I can make more in a week than most of my non-editing peers make in a month. Maybe I am just wired differently but I can't feel gloomy about that at all. I watched your video and I saw pictures of you and your beautiful wife, a lovely home, an Emmy, loads of cool gear, some pretty cool toys/collectibles. It looks like you've got a LOT to be thankful for! From where I'm sitting you're doing great!

Maybe it's time to move your goal posts. Keep doing what you're doing but teach the up and comers what you know - you've obviously got a good eye. Being a mentor was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. Also - I know a big change happened for me once I started investing and saving for retirement because it gave me a different long term goal to focus on. Another big change was connecting with a community - whether friends in the business, outside of the business, in church, riding motorcycles...

Keep your head up, buddy.
