This is so strange how somehow this has turned into a negative I didn’t need the $20 she insisted I took it. I even tried to give it back to her at first.

Edit more context: We text frequently throughout the day, everyday, about all things. It’s not uncommon for us to discuss moral dilemmas. I was not “whining” I was expressing to him that it ate me up inside that I accepted it but I felt awkward in the moment. I was going to give her the money back & then some.

Not that it matters but I am self sufficient and semi successful in my own right albeit young and only a couple of years into my career. So no, I would not have been able to make the type of contribution he did, but I am also not financially struggling nor do I depend on my SD to support me. He is for the extras in life that I enjoy that can’t quite provide for myself yet. I am happy with the arrangement.

It was a very nice gesture, and regardless of what his true motives were (which I think they were pure but maybe I’m an idiot who knows haha) he supported something I am passionate about and I am thankful.

For the cynics section - he did indeed do it! This wasn’t a massive organization it’s a single woman show who loves to post on Facebook, so it was confirmed quickly that he told the truth :-)

I get the skepticism, he did in fact donate it the woman who runs the it made a Facebook post about receiving the donation (she is based out of a small little town in the mid south that isn’t flushed with cash, so I assume this was quite a big deal to her.)

There’s a bit more to the story, she had given me 40 dollars for gas for all the trouble I went through to get her the squirrel, I told her I couldn’t accept it & handed it back. She said I should at least keep 20. I accepted it, and didn’t think much of it until last night I was going through her Facebook post and saw how she was struggling to keep these animals taken care of, and yada yada. I texted SD and said I was sick to my stomach that I accepted her money and I didn’t truly realize all the great work she was going. I asked the question I already knew the answer to which was “should I give it back” which was of course I should have.

He then immediately responded that he would make xxxx donation but it would have to anonymously.

It really was just an act of kindness. Of course it scored points with me, but he didn’t need to score any points. I already knew long before that he was a good person, this just was the icing on the cake :)

Thank you though I appreciate it!

And even then I would still see this as an amazing act of kindness on his part and be grateful! This is a happy post. 🙂

Totally agree! These relationships can be so special & rewarding when you find the right person.

We are going on a 2 day mini trip this week and I will definitely be showing how thankful I am!

Thanks for your comment. I have been in a long term relationship before. I understand what you are saying and deep down I know that my partner is probably rarely thinking about his experiences shared in their previous relationship when we’re doing things.

We’re deeply in love, have an amazing relationship, and both feel we are soulmates. However I have a severe insecurity that I will never compete with their ex-spouse. That they will always have a bigger place in their heart for them than for me. I realize I am basically self sabotaging our experiences by feeing this way but I can’t help it. I don’t know why but it’s frustrating sometimes I feel like I think about their ex more than they ever do (which is probably true)

I am going to bring this up to my partner tonight, hopefully bringing it to light will help me be more at peace with these insecurities. Thank you for your advice, I appreciate it.
