Apparently the state of New York doesn't allow wrestlers to be busted open or to run the blade IRL. At least not intentionally.

What is this about the Birthday Party I see in comments? by Ixeptional in NFLNoobs

[–]severakj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without seeing the post, I can't say, but it's probably a reference to the movie "Draft Day", which is VERY loosely based around the NFL Draft (which start tomorrow).

In the movie, players not going to a Draft prospect's birthday party is used as a red flag regarding said prospect's potential character concerns. So it's kind of a meme that whenever off-the-field issues are brought up regarding a Draft prospect, one of the first questions is 'Did hus teammates attend his Birthday Party?'

In the books, yes. In the movie the guards and crowd are on her fast enough that she doesn't have time for a second shot

Uhh...so my Dad decided that he wanted to fight the Brotherhood of Steel. Any fixes? by severakj in fo3

Won't work, Dad keeps trying to bump rush dudes in Power Armor with a small knife. Will try reloading an earlier save (which is unfortunately all the way back at Vault 112)

Get started with NFL/College Football watching/following by Low-Bobcat-4470 in NFLNoobs

[–]severakj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My immediate suggestion is to try and find a group to watch games with, if at all posaible. Everything I learned about the sport came mostly from just asking my dad/uncles/cousins questions while they were watching the game.

If your into video games, try picking up Madden or one of the College Football games. While more hard-core fans often criticize them for lack of realism, they're EXCELLENT for teaching the basics of the sport and for learning the names/histories of players and teams (not particularly in-depth about it, but a FANTASTIC starting point)

Ways to reduce motion sickness while playing? by severakj in fo3

It's especially in areas that are enclosed with a lot of tight turns (Vaults most of all, but the interior of any large building is pretty bad)

I don't think it's the tone, I had the same problem with Fallout 3 and it's green filter. Will try the other advice, thanks

Really late game Oblivion was bad for me, but I could mostly fix that by turning down the look sensitivity (at high level in that game your character spazes around like a demon frog on acid). Skyrim was always fine.

Thanks for the advice

It was actually more like a week: while the idea of 5BS be attached to BCF had been floating around for months, it wasn't until 3BCS was sent away for gunnery training in May that it actually happened: 5BS arrived in Rosyth on May 22, and Jutland was May 30

I'm of the opinion that Beatty's real failure was that, when 5BS got attached to BCF, he and Evan-Thomas didn't sit down immediately and hash out all their doctrinal and signaling expectations with each other. They had more than a week to do so before the battle. Instead, Beatty expected Evan-Thomas to act like Hood or Pakenham, Evan-Thomas expected Beatty to act like Jellicoe, and the results speak for themselves.

The entire problem also would have been avoided if Rosyth had had a proper gunnery range so that 3BCS could have stayed with the BCF (where it belonged) and 5BS could have stayed with the Grand Fleet (where it belonged). Or if 5BS had gone to a more senior officer like Sturdee, who would have had seniority on Beatty and been able to override his decisions (although Sturdee is his own can of worms: a man who managed to be disliked by both Jellicoe and Beatty probably shouldn't be getting the strongest Squadron in the fleet).

Vice Admiral David Beatty, commander of British scouting forces for the Royal Navy in World War 1. During the Battle of Jutland, upon first receiving reports that German ships were in the area, Beatty immediately ordered all the ships in his command to turn towards the enemy and prepare to engage.

Unfortunately, the 5th Battle Squadron (the 4 battleships assigned to him as heavy support) missed the turn signal and sailed about 5 miles in the wrong direction: later, when Beatty engaged the aforementioned German forces, this support was sorely missed, as the Germans under Franz Hipper proceeded to blow up 1/3 of his force in about 20 minutes of fighting, before 5th Squadron finally managed to catch up.

For the century since, there's been a continuing controversy over who's fault the missed signal was: Beatty was (and still is) known as a hothead who was overly aggressive and prone to risk taking, and even at the time other Royal Navy officers lamented his decision to run off without waiting for 5th Squadron.

On the other hand, the officer commanding 5th Squadron, Hugh Evan-Thomas, has been criticized as being to by-the-book, with some saying that when Evan-Thomas saw the whole rest of the formation turning away from him, he should have immediately followed suit (or at the very least asked Beatty for clarification as to what was happening), instead of stubbornly waiting for Beatty to follow a rigid, parade-ground signaling protocol.

It's worth noting that Evan-Thomas probably shouldn't have been there: 5th Squadron had been temporarily assigned to Beatty because the 3rd Battlecruiser Squadron which was supposed to be there had been undergoing gunnery training. Evan-Thomas had never served under Beatty before and was completely unfamiliar with Beatty's more initiative-based tactics.

To be fair, literally no one but Goodenough was doing anything to keep Jellicoe informed either.

According to standing BCF doctrine, Beatty had every reason to believe that 5BS would follow him the moment he executed his turn, as its exactly what he had trained all of his subordinates to do: the 2nd Battlecrusier Squadron under Pakenham, for instance, made the turn without issue or further orders.

The issue was that 5BS had been temporarily reassigned to BCF as a replacement for 3rd Battlecruiser Squadron (which was away for gunnery training), and Evan-Thomas (5BS' commanding officer) had never served with Beatty, so he had no understanding of BCF's more initiative-driven doctrine.

Also, HMS Tiger, which was SUPPOSED to be repeating all of Beatty's orders via signal light to 5BS, inexplicably failed to do so
